I use this all the time on my lathe. It does an outstanding job and I would buy it again. I work on a cheap Harbor Freight lathe and believe that this helps quite a bit.

I wanted a larger gouge for rough turning bowls. This tool keeps sharp for a reasonable time. The long handle makes it steady when roughing a bowl.

I am quite impressed with the quality for the price. I was a little worried because of the negative reviews but I took a chance anyway. I had to reshape it a little bit because I had a weird hollow ground sharpening. But I have never bought a gouge that I didn't have to reshape and sharpen. It holds the edge quite well. I just used it on rock hard walnut and it cut wonderfully. It seems to hold its edge very well. Great value and buy.

This is a very useful tool added to my current lathe tooling. You see a lot of YouTube-ers start projects with this type of tool. So I said ok, let's try one. Yep....works dandy.

This is a great-priced gouge that only has the downside of not being shaped/sharpened well from the factory. With any sharpening jig, this can be corrected in 15 seconds.I have purchased two of these for the sake of having different grinds on them, and if they stay at this price I could see buying more.

Like all new bowl gouges it requires sharpening and profiling to your preference. My other, smaller bowl gouge is a Robert Sorby, a brand known for top quality. This tool compares very well for a much lower price. I turned a maple bowl using only this tool and achieved fine results with no difficulty or issues. I have no hesitation recommending it and would buy it again when required.

It cuts fine as long as you don't get a catch the bar broke in half on the second catch not worth it

This 5/8" bowl gouge has some significant problems beginning with the construction. The steel may be tool steel but it is SOFT tool steel that grinds fast and dulls fast. The flute is a parabela and kind of shallow, kind of short and the initial grind is useless. The ferrel is decrative as it is made of flimzy plated steel. Having said that, I reground the tool and it took a very nice edge and will(in it's short life) be a useful tool. I say short life because with my sharpening jig ,the flute is used as a reference and the flute is so short that I will run out of steel in less than one inch. If price is paramont, and you have the necessary tools to regrind to your liking, this can work. If you don't want to fool with it and regrind it (repeatedly) perhaps you should spend a little more money for a tool already profiled to a fingernail grind with decent steel.
