It's a nice update of the venerable Radio Shack/X-10 controller. Far nicer interface and display.

Bought this controller to replace my old one that was 15-20 years old and wasn't working half the time anymore. This unit is much easier to program and read, and works great. Now all my lamp timers function on time every day. Good unit if you still use X-10 modules.

Bought this to replace an older X10 timer. This one is much easier to program, works fine, and does what I need. Very good improvement over the older models that were much more difficult to set times and ensure they were correct.

I have been using these timers for about 3 years and they have worked without any issues. They replaced two very old timers that were about 20-25 years old and did not recover from a couple major power surges.A couple comments related to posted reviews: Some non-dimming light bulbs and almost all other electronic components will not work with light switch modules but almost all will work perfectly with appliance modules. Also at least some light switch modules will put out RF radio frequency interference if you are using close to an AM radio. I have replaced all of my lamp modules with appliance modules and no longer have any problems. Other comments have been about timers not maintaining correct time. About two years ago our power company stopped supplying certified frequency power, meaning it was not always a perfect 60 cycles. It affected almost every non-battery powered clock in the house including my expensive wall thermostat and all of my X-10 clocks. Many of us complained to the power company and to the State. The utility was responsive and changed back to certified frequency power and we have had no more issues with the clocks.

I bought this MT14A to replace an aging MT522 mini-Timer because the slide switches were wearing out. It is clearly intended to be a direct replacement for the older unit, and has essentially the same controls but in a slightly different layout. Operation is almost identical, with one omission I find annoying: The on/off buttons are now non-functional in "clock set" mode (used to suppress functions on weekends). The red LED display on the older unit was much better; the LCD on this model is OK during daytime, but the backlight is annoyingly bright at night. I may someday open the case to add a dimmer so I don't feel like the police are shining a searchlight into my eyes. The older unit would use the power line as its time base and kept excellent time. The new model uses its internal crystal at all times and gains 4 minutes a month. At least the command signal strength seems improved over the older unit; I see fewer comm errors. All in all, I rate this MT14A an adequate replacement that's not as good as the old MT522.

We had our previous model for about 15 years, it worked well but started getting schizophrenic. Time to replace it. We also have an MT13A, and it is relegated to secondary use (Christmas lights). This new MT14A is very reliable anywhere in the house - the stronger signal seems to be a valid improvement. The screen is a bit bright at night - a dimmer function would be very welcome, as is common on so many lock radios.Programming these X-10 controllers is a little tedious, but once one gets the idea it's no big deal. Read the instructions, and re-check that your settings were saved, and they work.I know others reported some flaky controllers out of the box, but I have now bought 3 and they have all worked.

X10 has a general bad name - - > not as cool and marketed like the new WiFi IOT switches and stuff.BUT. . .. nobody is going to hack this stuff from another continent, and it won't compromise your network. I have been using X10 products for 20 years in multiple houses as general light timers. It works. You set the time to turn on, you set the time to turn off. Two on times and two off times for each of four "sets" of gizmos. You can have any number of gizmos on one "set".You don't have web access. . .timers don't automatically change times for sunset/sunrise and don't adjust for daylight savings but it WORKS. Cost is reasonable. Timer is $50; each "gizmo" you control is $10-$20. I have gizmos as plug in modules for xmas lights. . .also have light switch plates for ceiling lights/outside lights. Works fine. I use one of these timers in each of three homes to control 4 "sets" of lights. 1 set is all the xmas lights. 1 set is all the little candles in the windows. Front door lights on a third set. These timers seem to last several years and go bad. In 20 years, I have bought four of these (This model or the preceding MT10). Three running 5-15 years. One MT-14 went bad awhile back and was replaced . . . . Another MT-14 has the LED display going transparent. . . doesn't show the time well; but the timing functions are working fine. This unit was purchased to replace an older MT-10 that I thought the buttons going non-responsive after 10+ years of service - - but I managed to "reset" it. . . . I will hold it in reserve on the shelf for awhile until the MT-10 completely dies.
