This item worked very well, used on almost 100 spot welds and still sharp. Some were double layered metal, was able to tell when through each layer and not damage the third layer below. Note I did use oil, as should with any type of drilling. I kept drill speed about 150 RPM.

worked very well, you have to be careful not to drill through both layers of metal, drills are very sharp

I drilled 7 spot welds in aluminum but for the cutting edge was dull and the point at the tip is not pointy at all

worked fine for a while, guess you should drill a hole and take a long coffee break

Cheap and did the job. Be sure to pilot drill the spot weld first. The center of the bit is more guide than cutter but the cutter works well.

I use these for separating panels on cars they last forever if you take care of them use a small pilot hole thru the spot weld you’re drilling then use the spot weld drill bit at a low speed with firm pressure and cutting oil not for high strength steel tho it will kill the bit.

Was not able to cut a single spot weld. The spot weld was harder than the cutter.

I am removing rusted out floorboards from an old 1959 British car. I have to remove a zillion spot welds to get the old metal off. Then I will position new metal floorboards and MIG weld them on through the drilled out spot weld holes. This bit lets you drill through one layer of metal to remove the spot weld. But since I am throwing the old metal away, this doesn't matter and really doesn't save me anything, since I need a hole in the metal I am keeping to plug weld the new floorboards on. So given the more expensive price tag I think I'll just buy a dozen 1/4" cobalt drill bits for the rest of the work I have to do. If I ever needed to SAVE the metal I am removing then these would be useful, but I don't ever see myself encountering that situation with this project. Note that the photos are of my "practicing" on an old piece of sheet metal and not the actual vehicle.
