The cards are very sturdy, a bit slippery but with use it should feel like regular cards. My card box was also very sturdy and sealed well. No cards loose in the bag. I like the extra cards to play different versions of mahjong, and the big print. Now to find the perfect card holder…

Cards are good weight and coated to reduce marks, staining and bending. I'm very pleased. Set is great for American Mah Jong with full suite sets, jokers and blanks and easy to read graphics.

I bought this set of mahjong cards. It sounded like a great way to play mahjong while traveling without carrying a set of ties. The instructions were not included which was in the description which in itself doesn’t make sense. Why sell a game and not have the instructions. However, after searching the internet clear instructions weren’t found.

Using cards on a trip is the perfect way to play mah jongg in the down time without taking a set of tiles on the plane. There are card holders you can purchase to hold your 13-14 cards easily.

If you have full 13/14 cards in hand it gets a bit hard to arrange unless you have the card holder. Otherwise working well and very good for playing in small hotel room or limited space. I do wish it came with dice or some way to roll dice out of the box.

Cards are easy to transport to play mahjong while traveling. They’re durable and contain cards for both American and Chinese versions.Box was torn and some cards have blemishes where it appears the ink smeared but they were all there and will be easy to take along.

These cards are great quality! When I first used them, they felt extremely slippery, which I find is great since I don't want my cards to be sticking togetherThe pictures are nice and simple to read, and very useful for people who are first learning Mahjong who don't understand Chinese charactersThey are quite portable, but not portable enough to fit in your pockets or anything. But there are a lot of cards, which is understandable. If you're looking for a card set to bring around to play Mahjong with your friends, I would highly recommend these cards since they are great quality and pretty portable compared to an actual Mahjong set

The American Mah Jongg Playing Kards from Yellow Mountain Imports are great! The cards are the same quality and size as regular playing cards and shuffle easily. Once you receive the cards, you must remove the extra cards. The deck includes an option for the jokers, dragons and flowers/seasons so that you can play with the pictures that are most familiar to you. In addition, blank cards are included in case you need to replace a lost or damaged card.I'm so glad I ordered these cards. I've only played for about 6 months and realized that I really didn't know the reference card very well, and it was holding me back from playing with experienced players. I'm still playing with my learning group and I want to branch out and find other opportunities. I joined a game at a community center about 3 months ago, telling the other players at the table that I was a beginner. They were very patient and I tried hard to keep up with their pace of the game. However, I found that I was having trouble trying to determine what I had in my hand and match it to a possible hand on the reference card. They were a friendly and encouraging group, and I'd like to play with them again - after I feel that I can keep up with their pace of the game.I decided that I needed to hone my skills with the reference card. I went to my favorite place to find anything I could ever want (Amazon, of course) and found these cards. Once I received the cards, I made up rules for a Mah Jongg Solitaire card game and play at least once a day. I recommend this deck of cards for anyone trying to learn Mah Jongg.Even if I just deal out 13 cards and use the reference card to organize options for playing, I find it's a great tool to keep me familiar with the card and considering different options in between games with my learning group. Good luck and I hope you Mah Jongg often!

Somehow my wife and I got interested in mahjong, but had never played the real thing. We wanted a game that predominantly would be played just by the two of us. Well everyone knows that you need four players to play mahjong. But why? I read the different rules on line, and other than the Japanese version which can handle three, you must have four players. But why? So we decided to try it. So I looked on Amazon for mahjong sets. Whoa! Here is the one we wanted but $85? That's a lot of cash to find out, yeah you do need four players. So we looked at the cheaper traveler's set, but what if we do like the game and can play it with two, then we got $20 tied up in a possibly junky set. Then I spotted the cards. Seven bucks and you are playing mahjong. It is just as mahjongy (game wise) as the tile sets but without the expense. Yes you don't have the romance of the clatter of the sparrows, but to find out if you like the game, you can't beat the cards. Also there is something to be said for portability--the cards are about the equivalent of three sets of playing cards verses a 15 pound set of tiles in an elegant wood box. So if you want to play mahjong on vacation, take the cards. The cards are good quality and attractive and I would think just as durable as any deck of playing cards. There are additional flowers and jokers so the cards can be used for either traditional Chinese or American play. Of course there are no instructions so you will need a book and a National Mahjong League Card if you want to play the current 2011 American version. If you do want to learn the American style, the has a 2004 NMJL score card that will teach the game. There are a number of websites that offer rules and scoring for traditional Hong Kong style, so if you have access to the Internet, you can be playing traditional Hong Kong style mahjong for seven bucks. We had the cards for two days and we were convinced, yes we can play mahjong with two players. We then bought the set above, which is a very lovely set. So for us the cards were an inexpensive introduction to a game for which we have come to enjoy very much, and we love our mahjong set. But without the cards, we may have decided that a mahjong set was too expensive and missed out on a game that we really enjoy. We are still wondering why you must have four players!
