This is a great quality item. The functionality is fantastic. I bought this for my husband for Christmas as he is a metal worker and he had to make some perfect circles out of metal and we were having a really hard time figuring out how to do it. This made the job so much easier! I'm giving 4 stars only because the item came extremely oily. I understand that it is coated in oil to preserve the metal and prevent rusting, but it was soaked in it and it was pretty gross initially. But once we got it cleaned up it was great.

Unit is sturdy and the thread is sufficiently tight to be reliable without being unworkable. Scribing points are sharp and the 8mm pencil holder works well. Very happy with the product.

I'm sure the item functions very well as dividers, however I have not opened the package as I ordered the 8" with pencil holder, to enable them to also be used as a pair of compasses. Does not have the required component to allow this, as clearly stated in both the item description and the photos.The transparency app also thinks these can be used for drawing circles with a pencil added - they can't! Returning.

Leg binds and sticks when adjusting to larger radius. Does not have a speed nut style adjustment as indicated by the AI Q&A.. .

I wish they would remove the pencil holder and replace it with a leg that holds lead like smaller products use. The screw does not hold pencil accurately and can mess up drawings at times.

When I think of a compass for drawing circles, I picture the one I had in grade school that was floppy. This is not that. This is the same principle but a much sturdier design. In particular, the radius adjustment doesn't move just by pushing or pulling on it; there is a thumbscrew for adjusting it.This worked well on a couple of cornhole boards that I built with my son. For the hole in the board, I didn't end up using this; instead I used a 6" hole saw. But I did use this to draw curves on the top of the legs, so that we could then cut them with a jigsaw. It did a nice job drawing those curves. I like that I only had to set the radius once. I did the second cornhole board weeks after the first one and the compass was still set for the same radius and ready to be used again without any adjustment. Pretty cool.You can use either a pencil or the built-in scribe (sharp needle for scratching a groove into the wood). I tried the scribe, but I preferred using a pencil, because of lower friction.

Sturdy and large. The main issue is it will only hold a small diameter pencil. It will not hold anything pen-sized like Sakura Pigma Micron fine line pens or Gelly Roll pens.

I bought this for large circles on my leather working. It is very sturdy even when opened very wide. Very happy I went with this item. Pretty large hole to chose a pencil or pen to put in. 5 stars all the way and highly recommend.

I consider this to be my very first actual compass. It's very simple construction, materials and build are excellent for durability. I've managed to drop my compass several times from my tall desk and it hasn't broken. The sharp tips are good for stability and poking people (please don't actually do that). I will say, I don't really like how the pencil holder works. If the manufacturer included a second one near the top of the compass, I would be much more satisfied using my compass. I usually have to readjust my pencil because it sways from side to side when I use any necessary amount of pressure.

There is a tiny amount of play in the arms but at such a great price it would absurd to complain about it. I'm very happy with this tool
