Absolutely no directions. I'm newer to this so really needed some guidance. The template is nice and thick. Once I found out what the brass insert was for the whole thing made much more sense. The brass insert clips into your router and helps you guide it through the template. There's definitely a learning curve. The first go at it was OK but should get better.

Yes we know it is made for wood work but we ended up using it more for quilting bow tie patterns. It is a little hard to hold in place due to so much of the plastic being cut out for all the bow tie patterns. Sticky dots can be fit in for quilting but for wood work it can be tough to get double side tape to hold the template solidly for the router. This template is set up for a single offset bushing where some other template designs use fewer cutouts and one bushing offset for cutting bowties and another bushing offset for cutting the holes. Using a single offset does eliminate the risk of putting the wrong bushing in the router when switching pieces. For quilting you just use the ruler foot. The pattern sizes are very clearly marked and the template is effective if a little tricky to keep in place. For wood remember the bit diameter kerf means the bow tie from one pattern is smaller than the hole made with the same pattern so test before cutting up a bunch of material.

This acrylic template is an excellent tool for layouts of bow ties if you want to enhance cracks or just make glue ups a little fancier. After all, to quote Matt Smith of Dr who fame, Bow Ties are cool!Cutting them with this template can be a challenge for a beginner though. I suggest going to the mighty YouTube for help with getting started if you have not used one of these before.The template itself is made from 1/4” acrylic and is plenty stiff and will work fine. The bit that is included is an end mill bit more suited for a CNC but will work fine with this template to cut some bow ties. A plunge router will make this process way easier but it can be done with the smaller trim routers that so many people are gravitating toward these days. The included guide is brass and is of good quality.Having ten sizes all on this same sheet makes holding this steady out in a field where it can not be clamped a challenge. Double sided tape is too thick and the available real estate is nil with so much of the surface area being cut out. A product called double sided transfer sheet is more appropriate as it’s thin, sticks well and is easy to remove as long as it is not left in place overnight. One could also use some blue painters tape on the back of the acrylic and use CA glue as well. I would not recommend using the CAGlue directly on the acrylic.I have not cut any bow ties with this template yet but I have used some like it in the past and had good results. This template is pricey, especially if you order the bit and guide with it but for a decent end mill bit and brass guide the value increases. It’s not the best template as I am not a fan of cramming so much onto one item like this one is but it’s certainly not the worst one I have seen. It will definitely do the job and is worthy of a try.

First impressions, this is okay make, good enough for the job, well, sort of. Just seems to be lower quality acrylic, if it is acrylic. Seems less than stellar material. That is about all the good on this one.There are NO instructions with this, not even a thank you note. They sure don't care about their customers. While most people will know how to use this, what about those that do not? It's not exactly super easy to use and get good results. So, you are completely on your own with this one. Funny how they have all the pictures, that only show the template with bow ties, not one picture of it in use. Not only no instructions, not not even a clue on this page how to use it properly.Big thing I noticed right away, they thought it would be such a good idea to try and cram as many bows into a small as possible template. Really? To use this you need to stick it down to your material with something like double sided tape, to keep it securely in place while you router. Since they crammed so much into such a small space, there is little left to use to apply tape, or enough for it to stick well enough. Quality templates of this nature give you plenty of space to tape them down, because they KNOW how these are used.And what is with the scale? Has little to no use for this kind of template. Another example of a company that has no clue how this is used. This is obviously a money grab and nothing more. They don't care enough to make a useable product and they are to lazy to show their customers how to use it.Would NOT recommend. So many better options here on the big A.

No instructions for this product or at least a link or two to a youtube video. Could never get it to work properly without tedious cutting and sanding to make a snug fit, especially the corners. Template material is easy to damage.

This set of templates is pretty much what you would expect. The acrylic is an appropriate thickness. The inclusion of the guide bushing and router bit is nice.I'm not sure about the included ruler. I mean, it doesn't hurt anything to have it there, but I'm not really sure when I would really need to rely on it.As with any jig or tool of this type, it won't make you a better woodworker if it's of a nice quality, but it can't hurt.
