I was impressed with the packaging of the strips. They have protective film and were stacked and secured and arrived in perfect condition. They have a very uniform, lightly brushed surface that matches the pictures in the listing. I used a strip to make a ceiling bracket in my garage. Drilling small holes indicated that it was a higher strength, stainless steel. I bent the strip in several locations and cut the ends with angle grinders. I was happy with the results and recommend these.

I guess you could use these “shims” for a million different purposes. I ordered them to fabricate backer plates for hinges that tore out of a cabinet.I used my vise to secure the shim and then I bent it down to approximately a 90 degree angle by hand. I used a hammer to finish squaring it up. Then I attempted to cut off the piece I wanted. I have two tin snips and neither one could make a dent in the 20 gauge metal. I had to resort to my cutting wheel to cut through. That left burrs that I was able to polish off with my grinder. Next I tried drllling with a 1/8 bit. I worked my way to my third bit before succeeding. This is tough steel. I think I’ll order some cobalt bits to make the drilling easier.Get these guys and use them for your projects. You won’t regret it!

These were ordered for several possible uses. First, to try with a set of alcohol ink markers I got. The markers might not be the best medium to try on the raw metal. surface, and maybe a light coat of spray paint would do the trick. Second, I’m waiting on a plasma cutter to be restocked at month’s end, and want to use these to freehand cut little logos, nameplates and the like for fun and practice. And maybe for resale if I like my work. The only question I have about these is whether the protective plastic was applied properly. I’ll have to make a trip to one of the local metal goods dealers to see how stainless sheet and bar comes. These have two layers of protective film on one side, and the other side is bare metal. Which allowed some of the pieces to get a little scuffed during shipping. Third and lastly, I can use a few of these plates to hone my stainless steel welding skills, and maybe fab up a teeny tiny faux bird house or something. Which will be a bit of a challenge since my rig is MIG, not TIG and I’m not sure if I have the proper gas. I gave four stars because they score low on my cheapskate-o-meter. While they are nicely laser cut (pretty sure), they would cost less than half at the local metal retailer. Well, to be fair, it would be hit and miss there, but scrap bin finds are only about 4.5 to 5 bucks a pound, and shapes like these small rectangles can be had often. So, locally, these would be around 15 bucks, give or take. For folks who don’t mind paying a bit of a premium (or have little choice due to geography) for the convenience, these will be great. One of these days I’ll work up the parameters of the cheapskate-o-meter rating, but for this item it’s a lower score based on the fact that I typically have more time than money plus a more economical local source since I don’t mind doing a little work to save a few bucks.

I’ve been having a field day with these and my 60w MOPA fiber laser! - I can mark, cut and engrave them and with the MOPA I can get color! - 11/10 would get these again!

I got these because I'm in the process of teaching myself to use a CNC milling machine. My wife had the idea of making collapsible fans with a tentacle theme, and since we all agree the world needs more tentacles, so I started with these and it was off to the races. Now, as it turns out, teaching yourself CNC milling is rather harder than it might at first seem. (We don't know what we don't know, eh?) I haven't yet produced something that I'm happy with, but that's 100% down to me, not the quality of the blanks. They're fantastic. They are a bit spendy. What you're getting for that money is protective film on both sides and extremely accurate thickness and flatness. They're not really suited for laser engraving with a diode laser—you'll want a fiber laser if that's your goal.
