2. Aids in preventing the leakage of gear lube and the infiltration of water into the gear case, thereby averting potential serious damage.
3. The embedded magnet in the screw plug attracts any ferrous metal shavings, preventing them from remaining suspended in the gear lube and potentially damaging the gears.

I used these on my 2005 Bravo 3 outdrive and no leaks. I have 2 more sets of o-rings, so I'm good for a couple more seasons. Also.... I bought a screw driver that fits these perfectly.
