It works like it should!

Let me start off by saying that I hate these things. Dometic bought Atwood and the design of the water heater, but these things are crazy. These thermal fuses are designed to melt if the flame gets sucked out of the flame tube. They melt to protect all the other components. They are a safety device.BUT, they also seem to break due to vibration, etc., and just seem to quit working sometimes for no reason. The industry term is they are responsible for nuisance trips. They just seem to go sometimes for no apparent reason, and then you have no hot water.Thankfully, they are cheap and easy to replace. Just make sure you put the new one where the old one was. It needs to be where a flame can get to it and melt it in order to do its job. If you get it tucked out of the way, it won't work and might as well not even be there. My only concern with this particular order was that I didn't actually get what was advertised. The listing shows the kit comes with 4 of the thermal fuses (so you have spares that you will likely need), and two short brown wires. The wires are to replace one that gets melted if that happens (does sometimes, other times it is fine). HOWEVER, my kit did not have the two brown wires. There was only one brown wire AND a sheet of foam that covers the ECO and T-stat to keep them dry. Truly, this is better in my opinion. However, it was different from what was actually pictured, so I docked a star. The verbiage talks about replacing the foam, and they provided it, so you can. However, it later says that the package contains 4 x thermal fuses, 2 x brown wires, and 2 x instructions sheets. So that part was not correct. But, again, I think they provided better than they advertised. But the ad is a little misleading - it actually contradicts itself.Either way, the thermal fuse worked. I tested the other three with a meter and they all tested good, so I have my spares. Ready for the next time. One tip - one thing that will suck the flame out of the tube is a heavy wind moving past the vents on the water heater door. If you in the park, there is not much you can do about it. But if you are driving down the road with the water heater on, this makes it have a flameout pretty easy. IT IS NOT SAFE. Please make sure to turn off the water heater before towing.
