I don’t understand how they work - they just work! I searched Amazon & other sporting goods sites for a cooling cloth that wasn’t super long that could pack lightly in my suitcase and my day bag AND not look so obvious around my neck as my current more expensive one and most long ones I found online. I was also looking for some variety in color. For the price, I thought I’d give these a try. I took 3 on a carry-on trip to CO where I used them for hiking, and I’ve used them back home in NC on long walks. I wet and wring out one, put it in a baggie in my purse (which I turn inside out to dry afterwards to reuse), and pop out to use around my neck and dab my wrists and forehead, and it somehow stays cool even after wearing for a while out in the sun! They’re just polyester, so maybe any scarf would work, but I’ll stick with these for now because I know they’ll stay cool & are easy to clean. I’ve machine washed cool and line dried no problem. Only con is the scarves with the design are just white on the back; however, the solid ones in light gray, navy, and black are the same color all the way through or same on each side.

With six bandanas, there is an ample number of these for a household of two to have on hand for the inevitable grid-down situation where you might die from not having access to air conditioning. We have solar panels to handle lower wattage DC fans, and I like very much that these bandanas are flat squares that can be dipped in water and draped over our fan grills to help cool the air. They also work very well to get cooling to artery hot points (neck, chest, temples, underarms, groin). They stay wet a good long time, too, which is great if you're trying to conserve water in an emergency. They are comfortable when worn and easily hand-washed if you aren't able to run the washing machine.

These are soft and silky, not what I had in mind for bandana material. Not your average cotton version! They slip off my head easily but are comfey.
