This unit has a clutch that will not stay tight and ultimately leads to the unit wobbling quickly. Product/warranty support is very difficult to deal with, and has not dealt with this issue despite them having actually made a new clutch design for more recent units. I was given the older inneffective clutch, the one others here complain about and that warranted an actual redesign, but this company just keeps asking for more and more proof of their bad wobbly design.

I was still recovering from a coma almost year prior, and had just gotten back to playing the drum kit. My back and glutes got uncomfortable and tired very quickly. This throne is great. Immediately I could play more comfortably and longer. The back rest is nice, but the shape and material the seat is made of is what really makes it.

I purchased this drum throne to use as a chair for playing electric GUITAR. I have a lower back (lumbar) problem so I was looking for a chair with a backrest. I am 6 feet and 1 inch tall. My requirement is that my thighs are parallel to the floor with my feet flat on the floor. This chair works perfectly for me! Assembly was simple and required no tools. It is very well made and is as solid as a rock once the two clamps are in place. The top clamp holds the seat in place on top of the screw shaft and can be left slightly loose to allow the seat to pivot. The lower clamp holds the screw shaft at your chosen seat height. The height of the top of the seat can be adjusted from 18 to 24 inches from the floor. I was a bit worried about the stability of the 3-leg design (normal for a drum throne) but found it too be very solid with its wide spread legs and big, rubber feet. I have the height set at about 19 inches and that is perfect for me, placing my feet firmly on the floor yet free to kick on and off effects pedals. The backrest is adjustable forward and backward but not up and down. For my height, it supports my lower back perfectly and is quite comfortable. If I was shorter, the backrest would be too high up on my back to provide the support that I need. I'm estimating that, if you need support specifically in your lumbar region, the backrest would be too high up if you are shorter than about 6 feet. As many others have noted, the seat itself is very comfortable with a perfect balance between softness and firmness. When sitting in it, you do not feel the split in the middle at all, and it does seem to take all of the pressure off your tail bone and rear end. For my height, this chair works perfectly for guitar playing, but it would not if I was about 2 inches shorter. The overall weight of the chair is perfect, making it easy to move the chair around.

This top of the line throne is very comfortable. However it will not stay locked in place which leaves the seat wobbling n making noise, which gets worse as the lock nuts continues to loosen. I'm under 150 lbs. This may have been a defective unit and I was not able to contact the manufacturer, Ahead, since search as I may, couldn't find their contact info.Same goes for the dealer. That sucks.Had no choice but return it as much as I wanted to make it work.

I have a small home studio so a normal Captain’s Chair will not fit without being out of place. This Drum Throne is the perfect size. I’ve been using a Pork Pie drum throne without back support for years. This is a huge step up. I can only imagine it’s great for drummers!
