Hollow design cuts around weld, thus hardness does not affect tool sharpness. An adjustable depth rod sets the tool so only the outer panel is cut through, leaving the underlying panel undamaged. When one end becomes dull, simply unscrew the cutter from the arbor, and reassemble with the new teeth exposed. With arbor, for use in any 1/4", 3/8", or 1/2" chuck hand held drill.

these have a learning curve. run them slow and they will last. they are brittle but pretty tough if used lightly, remember they are not a drill they are for light removal of sheet metal. used correctly you can get through 30 or so spot welds. this is the best price i have found.

A few tips for making spot weld cutters last - use a drop of cutting oil, make sure your punch mark or pilot hole is deep enough and the point on your blade holder is not too dull, and use a cordless screwdriver/drill with the clutch set fairly low. Teeth break off when the cutter catches, but a weaker clutch will allow you to adjust your angle rather that hearing that terrible "pop" of a broken tooth. These seem to be good quality cutters when used properly!

Surprisingly durable. For me with WD40 and a cheap wobbly drill, 5 sides = ~150 spot welds. Buy more than you need so you don't stall your project. At least an extra pack of 3 so when you get into that extra pack, place your next order on Amazon and it should arrive before you burn out the whole pack.

They break easily.

If you use them like you're supposed to, these are great. If you try to drill too fast or rock back and forth you'll break them everytime. Hit the spot weld once or twice with a center punch and drill away.

These work very well, but even following the directions exactly, sometimes the teeth simply sheer off. This can be after you've cut 100 holes or on the first hole. I get very inconsistent tool life.
