About this item

  • E7014 offers outstanding slag removal and bead appearance
  • This rod is ideal for jobs that require high deposition and speed of travel
  • Typical applications include ornamental iron, machine bases, heavy sheet metal and frames

Been buying welding rod a long time. This was the best packed rod I've encountered. Sealed tight and protected from damage. First time using 7014, but seemed just the thing for my new $60 "portable" arc welder, pushing about 120A. Really impressed. Not sure I'll need small "exotic" rods with my big buzz box, but still, another tool in the arsenal.

Worked as they should, used right outta the package, nice clean arc. One of the better rods I’ve used.

I generally weld with flux core wire or welding rod. I have several welding machines. one is a 12/240 multi process (tig, mig, stick, flux) and others. i decided to use my Harbor Freight 80 amp 120 volt stick welder to weld some 14 gauge exhaust pipe for a motorcycle. I usually use 6013 3/32 rod. I've been using 7014 1/8 rod from a big box store, I'll use half the rod and then it turns to junk so I was thrilled to use this BlueDemon rod. Let me tell you it is fantastic, I can stop and start with it (tack weld) or do a stringer bead and use the whole rod. I ran a half dozen rods with that little machine and had no problems, now I"m going to buy 7014 1/8 rod for heavier work and I'll order some 6013 1/16 and 5/64 if they make it. You won't be sorry if you go with this brand.

I will be buying more of these. The smaller size diameter is perfect for welding thinner metal.

I have probably only welded 10 lb of rod in my lifetime so take that in mind. Most of that has been in the last 2 weeksI was having trouble with 7018 rod with restarts and stuck rods. Tried all of the YouTube tricks, but still a pain. And 7018 is supposed to be stored in a rod oven, which I can’t imagine buying. As I understand it, this stuff needs to be kept dry, but normal household/garage storage is ok6013 is often recommended as a beginner rod cause it’s easy to strike. But I can’t seem to run it without worm holes. And the slag is hard to get off cleanlyThis stuff strikes well hot or cold, has a nice smooth 7018-like weld bead. Flux burns back in a cup shape, so a steep drag angle lets me just drag the rod along. Easy for a beginner to hold a tight arc. Slag is smooth, but didnt just peel off like 7018. I use a wire brush in an angle grinder for slag, so that doesnt bother meVery tolerant of long arcing. Seems like it would hold an arc from across the room 🤣. Very helpful for a beginnerI’ve been making T joints on 3/8” steel plate. I got 3/32 size cause I was afraid of maxing out the amps on my cheapo “140 amp” inverter welder. I’m running 85 “indicated amps” and that actually seems on the hot side, which is good for a beginner. That’s at the low end of what’s on the label. I think I’ll get some 1/8 to try. Prolly work well on my little machineI didn’t cut and etch to check penetration, but I did accidentally burn through a piece of 1/8 wall pipe at 90 amps, so it’s probably ok Very happy with it. I’ll update if I get broken welds on my high stress farm implement!

Wow.. nice FAT bead.. looks like i know what im doing.. mostly not ;) ... but is super easy to use..Used on 200 amp DC invertor EP at 185 amps.. highly recommended..edit... I bought the 5/32 rod... all the reviews are combined so you gotta know the diameter. This rod is recommended to run at 180 amps and up to 210.... ran buttery smooth at 200 amps on my cheap DC invertor welder.. great for most 1/4 to 1/2 plate but don't build bridges with it!

Could not find recommended Amp Range for these 5/64" Blue Demon 7014 until they arrived. This is similar to Hobart 3/32" 6013 (40-90 amps), which are almost identical to 7014 for all practical purposes according to ChuckE2009(YouTube welding guru). Available locally at Northern Tool in 1 or 5 pound boxes. Also similar range to 3/32" Lincoln Fleetwood 180 (40-80 amps). These are a 6011 electrode which gives deeper penetration with a flatter more spattery bead than 7014, & 6011 weld better on dirtier metal. These are also available locally at Home Depot for cheap in a 5lb box.UPDATE Aug 3, '16: It's been over 20yrs since I welded in shop class. Had handy 3/32" Fleetweld 180 E6011's, these 5/64" E7014's & 1/16" E6013 to go with my new Everlast 140st 110v Inverter DC welder. I stuck & burnt up in flames the 1st 4 e6011 rods, then switch to these Blue Demon rods. They were very forgiving and was able to use them to get the hang of it again without them sticking. After 2 or 3 rods, I switched back to burning the 6011 and was able to run them fine.Bottom line is if you need to get the hang of running rods, do yourself a favor and have a box of these in-hand to ease your frustration in the beginning to get the hang of it. Welding tips and tricks on YouTube did an electrode selection overview where he noted e7014 to be the most forgiving and even ran a rod of it un-attended to demonstrate. He was right.
