This compass is very rustic and charming. The design elements are stylish and give it a classic feel that looks like something from the old world. For telling time, the sundial does hold up pretty well. Keep in mind that it stops working after sundown though.It did have a couple of flaws on mine. Some of the gold coloring is scratched off and there is black oil around it in various locations that had to be cleaned. I feel that it being handmade should've caught these things early on. And not a flaw, but I'd like to have seen any design on the other side of the sundial flap since only one side has it. The dial closes both ways but one side is clearly top and other bottom.In conclusion, it is a nice gadget that comes well-packed and is cool to look at and handle.

My daughter has been wanting a compass after seeing one in an outfitting store. As she's not going on orienteering runs I figured we'd get her something that looked like it was out of a story book and was still functional. This definitely fit the bill. Has a little pop up sundial that you can actually use if you paid attention in Scouts and the compass spins freely on its axis. Just push the top like you would a pocket watch to open it up to see the compass. She's having a blast with this and the price was reasonable for the decorative nature of the compass.
