Product Description

Portable power bank featuring four solar panels

Do you ever find yourself with a battery at 5% and no way to charge?

One solution is a portable power bank. But, of course that needs charged too. The HM-SPB1 Solar Power Bank solves this problem. It can be charged for free, by harnessing the power of our Sun!

Aside from the obvious features and benefits of a portable power bank/charger, the HM-SPB1 sports four connected solar panels that can replace a wall adapter and re-charge the power bank, for free using nothing but good old sun rays.

Additional thoughtful design features that set the HM-SPB1 apart:

Available USB Ports

Available USB Ports

Three USB ports are available for connecting your devices: 2x USB-A + 1x USB-C.

  • All three ports (2x USB-A + 1x USB-C) can be used as an output to charge your devices. However,
  • The USB-C port is the only one that can also be used as an input to recharge the HM-SPB1

Additional Functions

The HM-SPB1 includes a few additional functional design features:

  1. LED Power Indicator - See how much charge you have left by pressing the button once
  2. Flashlight - Press and hold the button to toggle the flashlight feature
  3. Double Purpose Closure - The loop with the snap not only keeps the unit nicely folded, but it can also be used to hang the HM-SPB1 for maximum solar exposure and fast re-charging (using provided carabiner).

Four Solar Panels

Construction

A flexible and durable cover connects the solar panels and wraps around the HM-SPB1 to provide added protection from the following human and environmental factors:

  • Impact of an accidental drop
  • Dust/debris that may accumulate over time and obstruct the sun's rays.
  • Moisture that be catastrophic to the sensitive circuitry inside.

Lifestyle Flexibility

We recognize the diversity in lifestyle when it comes to our users. That's why we are happy to offer useful features for all occasions, fun or not-so-fun:

  • Emergency Use - Solar panels come in handy more when the power is out. And the USB-C port works great for charging the HM-SPB1 the rest of the time.
  • Recreation/Outdoors - Sun can be your friend, especially if you need to carry a USB powered personal fan...or a GPS for navigation.
Solar Power Bank Hanging From Tree

Hanging the solar panels in the path of direct sunlight is the key to a quicker recharge

A Solution for Our Electronic Reality

Imagine the perfect camping trip... Whether it be with friends, family, or even alone to enjoy the peace and quiet, we often bring electronics as company too. The ability to easily communicate is a comfort many of us take for granted.

A solar powered backup charger is an easy and affordable way to bridge the divide when you find yourself in a world without easily accessible power.

A few possible scenarios in which the HM-SPB1 may bring peace of mind:

  • A family camping trip with younger kids who are accustomed to electronic devices for entertainment
  • A long drive through treacherous weather or very rural areas
  • Widespread power outages
  • Waking up with a big day ahead after forgetting to plug in one's phone the night prior
  • Ensuring your kids always have the ability to charge their phone so they can remain reachable

Solar Re-Charging Tips

Positioning

Solar panels may be laid flat and facing upwards. However, solar panels will capture much more sunlight when positioned to face the sun. For example,

  • To maximize exposure while the sun is rising, the surface of the panels should face east
  • If sun is directly overhead, the solar panels are best laid flat

Hanging

Using the included carabiner clip, the solar panels can be hung for easy repositioning. For example, one might:

  • Hang from their backpack during a long hike
  • Hang from a nearby tree branch after setting up camp

Works so well I think someone is playing tricks on my mind and charging it with a power outlet to make me think the sun is charging it! Built in battery is perfect for night time energy storage and charging.

This charges faster than expected and holds it for a long while. I love that you can also charge it by cord as well as the sun. It seems very rugged and durable. A must have for any bug out bag

Did a 62 miles/6 day hike and used this to keep my phone charged. Wore on the back of my backpack during the day and worked great to keep my phone charged the entire trip. Make sure it's fully charged before heading out. Solar charging is slow and can be troublesome on those cloudy days.

After about 3 hours charging (which isn't even to capacity), the sun decided to say goodbye, so I tested it by charging two things at once. After about 20-25 minutes, an iPod had gained about 14% and a speaker had gained about 20%. The battery indicator on the power bank didn't take a hit. The capacity and charging speed are admirable. The pack itself is sleek and compact, features a flashlight (which thankfully has a hold on/off feature to stop mispowering), and has a very handy hanging strap. This would be absolutely great for modern camping to keep your cell phone/gps/robot dog charged, or even something to keep at home for power outages!

Overall: This is a standard 20,000 mAh capacity backup battery. After 6 hours in the (winter sun), it was still at 1/4 lights on the charge. So, in a pinch, it may be nice to have the solar available if you're camping and need just a little extra charge; but by no means expect it to re-charge full capacity using solar very quickly. That being said, I'll try my solar re-charge test again this summer when the sun's a little stronger.Pros: External light makes this a little extra functional as an emergency power bank (power outages).Cons: Button for light is a little tough to press / Solar is a great add-on, but don't expect it to fully re-charge the battery.

As the owner of several power banks, the first thing that struck me with this one was how much it weighs. It's quite beefy! But then, I've never had a power bank with its own solar power generator! That certainly adds to its weight and girth. This power bank is an ingenious idea and will be a comfort for those who venture far from civilization, but still want to stay connected, even when they're off the grid. For the rest of us, I just feel a little greener knowing that I can hang this up in a window and use natural solar energy to charge the bank--and, in turn, my battery-powered devices. It probably won't result in a power plant being shut down, but we have to start somewhere! It also comes with a small flashlight, which could come in handy, especially because, if you're phone is dead, that means you're probably without a flashlight, right?I'll admit I haven't had a chance to solar-charge it from 0 to 100% yet, but I'll be really curious to see how quickly it can charge when all you have to recharge the bank is sunshine coming in a window. When I'm able to do so (and it may be a while, since this has been a very cloudy winter so far) I'll report back.

I recently used this on an overnight hike and it did great charging two iPhones! I wanted to test out its functionality, so I drained the battery overnight, then hooked it to the back of my backpack with a carabiner so it could solar charge while we were hiking. It got a full charge after about 6 hours in the winter sun, and had enough juice to return two iPhones to full charge and have some left over.I will warn you - its heavy! Heavier than any other power bank I've ever had. But I like that it can be charged via cable and through the solar panel, and its obviously well-designed. The flashlight feature is also nice - its not terribly bright, but definitely something you'll be glad to have in a pinch! I think it'll be a great addition to my emergency bag.
