Very easy to install, just hope this lasts the test of time and doesn’t fail. Was sick of having the spare tire in the bed of the truck so I’m happy this worked and can get my spare back u see the bed

After reading previous reviews, I knew before ordering that this hoist would not work right out of the box for my 3/4 ton truck wheel with large center hole. My solution was to install the old, larger retaining plate over top of the new plate after cutting a slot in one side of the old plate for the cable to pass through. Otherwise, the new hoist was installed and spare tire installed in 10 minutes. I don't plan to ever use the hoist in an emergency situation, so don't know how well it will work in the future!

Although probably not as robust as the original OEM hoist, it works fine and seems solid. Plus, you'll no longer have to worry about the rusted safety catch that plagued the OEM hoist and required this replacement hoist.

This was an exact fit on my 2002 chevy Silverado pickup. Over half the price less than my local auto parts store. Very easy to install. I would recommend this product.

I was hoping this Dorman tire hoist would be better quality than the others, but no such luck. I bought this as the OEM hoist is no longer available. It installed easily, but while hoisting the standard spare into place, the gears inside the hoist started stripping, and were completely stripped and no longer functional before the tire was half way up. More aftermarket junk

Fits 2006 Silverado this is meant for a 6 lug half ton it will not fit a 3/4 ton and bigger as the 8 lug wheels have wider hubs use aero kroil or a hood penetrating oil a good angle grinder with cutting wheel and a 15 mm socket and breaker bar then ratchet e shop quoted 300 to replace this I was afraid to replace this myself like some people are but then I attempted with this part and was successful this dorman one doesn’t have a secondary safety catch like the one originally on these trucks so it’s less likely to fail when your don’t it lifts the tire up for you as you turn it

Purchased this to replace a frozen unit on my dad's Chevrolet pickup from 2009. The OEM part was almost $300. This from amazon warehouse was $50. No complaints from me and I'd buy this again in a heartbeat.I'm not sure about the longevity of this aftermarket one but as long as it lasts 5 years I'm happy.From my research these commonly have issues as the vehicle ages. You might want to check yours to see if it functions, if not replace it as it took me over 2 hours to get the spare tire down. Next time I would cut the cable from the start.

This unit performs well, it doesn't have the safety latch which seems to be the common problem with original equipment.

Hoist seems to be solidly made and of high quality. Very easy to install, I had it on in minutes. Works the same as the original hoist, minus the secondary latch which failed on my truck. I had to cut the old hoist off with a sawzall as the secondary latch was seized up so badly. Good to go now!

Worked well and fitted fine under the truck. It does not have a secondary safety hook but it maybe a better option since it typically seizes up locking the spare tyre in place.

Item is a replacement for the product that came with my 2010 silverado which anyone searching this product already knows about. I would recommend buying the correct hoist for your truck. It is 20.00 more but the fit is perfect. Quality of hoist is as comparable to the oem part. Shipping was super fast as usual and hoist is in my truck and seems fine. Only issue with the process was removing the old one, the factory puts locktite on the bolt and it took a fair amount of time to remove it. Use an open end ratchet wrench to remove the bolt because the housing is quite close to the bolt and a socket will not fit. All in all the dorman product has my approval!

If you have a GMC/Chevy truck/SUV built since 2001, your spare tire is subject to getting STUCK under the truck.There is a "secondary safety latch" mechanism on the GMC 'spare tire winch' which gets stuck in the 'locked' positiondue to rust/salt/mud/etc that hits the undercarriage of your truck. Once that safety latch is seized up, you need acutting torch to get your spare tire off. If you drive in locations where winter means snow and salty gravel on the roads,it *WILL* eventually seize up in the 'locked' position, and once that happens, you are effectively driving WITHOUT a sparetire. How long it takes to seize up depends on a lot of things, but if I ever buy another GMC truck, and it has that "safety"feature, I'm going to drop the spare tire as soon as I get it home from the dealer, and secure that safety latch in the 'unlock'position permanently (probably just weld it that way).Anyway, this Dorman winch is the perfect replacement if you have to torch off your GMC spare tire winch and need another one.You just crawl under your truck, unscrew one bolt, pop the old seized and cut up GMC winch off, put the Dorman up there and screw thebolt back in and voila. Pop the 'holder' thing thru the tire and winch it up. Done. And no more fear of having that safety latchlock your spare tire up on you, since this winch does not have that ridiculous feature.
