High Speed Steel Hand Taps come in three styles: Taper Style: Starts the thread square with the workpiece. Plug Style: Generally used in thru holes. Bottom Style: Generate the thread to the bottom of the hole. A tap set contains 1 taper, 1 plug and 1 bottoming tap.

These are decent taps for small jobs. They are not harden steel; so be careful using them; don't force them, use cutting oil. Remember, it is a bear to get a broken tap out of a bore.

It's difficult to overstate how good these are. I had a demanding hand-tapping job in 316 stainless. A tap of another brand broke off in the hole. I ordered four sets of these taps thinking they'd be as disposable as the other brand. I was wrong. The first tap made quick work of the entire job and could have kept going. No sign of dulling or wear. ProTip: Go slow with 316. 1/8 turn forward followed by 1-2 full turns back worked well.

I used the bottoming tap to chase cross threaded mounting bolts on a 74 Chevy Blazer that a mechanic by aka, not by trade did prior. Tap worked perfectly no issues. I used cutting lubricant and backed off 1/4 turn for every turn. I would recommend these taps. When times get better I plan to buy more sizes.
