VERDICTBuyWHYSometimes you need to connect to old-school serial devices, but we live in the 21st centuries where most modern laptops only have USB-C ports. This item was perfect, especially with the FTDI chip which is preferred for my purposes. Works great for now

This is great, can be attached to a VM (vmware workstation) and work with older software without the need of lugging a older laptop around (or even a full PC).Connectors and cable are quality, should last the limited life time of the old hardware you're trying to support.

This review is for DSD TECH SH-RS232M USB-C to RS232 DB9 Serial Cable with FTDI Chip for Windows Linux Mac. Brand: DSD TECHI'm using this as I upgraded my very old laptop and none of the new ones that I was interested in have a DB9 connector. I need it for my automotive diagnostics cable. I downloaded the drivers, installed them, and everything works just like I had a regular DB9 port.

Ordered this as have a couple of Cisco devices from a previous lab and was looking to configure them with a console cable. Unfortunately all modern PCs have ditched the old style DB9 serial port, so this is where this adapter comes in. The item arrived as a double pack, and was well packaged in a solid card box.Once opened, it's just a case of downloading the driver first (QR code/link on the packaging) and installing. Once done, plug in cable and windows will assign it a comm port in device manage and you can then use your preferred tool (I use Putty) to connect to your devices. The cable is well made, solid and the molding is clean. During use, I had no issues and the cable worked perfectly- some of these USB->serial adapters can be "flaky" at best, but this was rock solid. Price break is excellent, given that you get two adapters included. Great value for money, this has gone into my laptop bag with the rest of my "useful cables". Highly recommended..
