A little smaller than I thought, but it works great. I was going to return it and get a larger one. However, I tried it out and now I am going to keep it and get a larger one and use this one on smaller work!!

I'm a newcomer to wood turning, having just purchased a low-end Chinese-made 10x12 inch lathe. As any new turner will tell you, one of the secrets to good turning it have good, sharp, tools, and using them correctly. Even with a lot of care, the beginner typically ends up with a lot of catches and splintered wood, and spends as much or more time sharpening as turning. And that's why the Easy Wood tools are so great. The Easy Start tools are a god size for my small lathe, and more importantly they eliminate the need for sharpening and drastically speed up the learning process, letting you concentrate more on the actual turning instead of cutting angles and tool choice. Almost all your work can be done with just three tools. They cut beautifully, never catch if used according to directions, and never need sharpening. I suppose I may eventually need to go back to my steel tools for some advanced techniques, but for now I'm perfectly happy with the Easy Start tools.

Reviews are more valuable if you know something about the person writing them, so- I'm new to woodturning, with only three months experience- I only turn pen blanks, with stock ranging from domestic to exotic hardwoods- The tools I replaced were very cheap tools from PSISo, with those things in mind, I absolutely love the Easy Start Finisher. Compared to the PSI HSS spindle gouge I was using, this thing is a razor. Where my pen bushings would dull the PSI gouge, the Easy Start tool just cuts right through them, so I have to be careful not to cut the bushings. I do agree with other reviewers that the tool bar is very short, but for pen turning, it's about right. I have an almost identical review for the

The screw that holds the cutter head on is so small it strips when you try to move the cutting edge around. Its also very small tool and has a short as hell handle its not safe. They need to do a better job for $60 + dollars it should be better than this. The screw that holds the cutter head on should be larger. You need to use the smallest L wrench tool to pull out the screw. I've never seen a smaller screw... This is a BAD design. The overall size of the handle and steel shaft should be longer, it looks like a toy.

Recently purchased and used to turn acrylic and wood pens. I am still getting used to using this particular tool, but so far it provides a nice smooth cut with little effort. Worth the investment.

Excellent tool for a beginning wood turner. Gouges and skews can be difficult to master, but these tools work well with almost no learning curve. And no sharpening - just turn the blade to expose a fresh edge then replace when it's used up.

I will come right out and admit it. I am terrible at sharpening lathe tools.. Heck, im not great at sharpening knives even. I make a lot of pens and this tool makes it easy. It happily cuts hardwood, softwood, spalted, burled, corian, antler, corn cob, lava rock, and acrylic. It is just amazing. When it starts to turn like one of my "hand sharpened tools" I just rotate the cutter 90 degrees or so and its back to being SHARP. Love it.

This is my first woodturning tool purchase.I purchased it actually not for turning wood, but to make some poly wheels round again.I was slightly surprised that it had a round bit (I thought it was square) but if you look closely, you can clearly see it is round in the picture. The tool came with the required hex wrench to change (or rotate) the round carbide bit.I liked that the bit was carbide (not just hardened steel)The long handle makes keeping the cutting end more easily stable.
