I thought this things was great for the first week. Now my play/pause doesn't work for my program but overrides onto my word document. FF and RW work on the player though. I would return but I missed the cut off date because I haven't been writing transcripts the past 2 weeks

Just got this today, tried it, and will be returning it. If you are currently in the YouTube window, have your foot on the pedal, and start a video, it kind of works. But if you click out of that window- even if you're IN YouTube Creator transcribing subtitles, it doesn't work.

This transcription pedal is easy to install and works very well, as long as the video is played on one device and transcribed on another. If it is used on the same device, the pedal stops working after the first time the video is paused. Maybe there is a way around it, but the device comes without instructions, so I haven't figured out a way to make it work on the same device. Other than that, I would definitely recommend it.

Update after 3 days:- Read my original review first - below.- The value of the pedal is to control a YouTube video by foot so you can type or do other things with your hands. I wanted to write reviews of news videos and others, and be able to stop or reverse the tape to complete typing a thought.- Then I found that the CURSOR must be on the active screen for the pedals to work. What that means is that if you open a Window with Word or Evernote to type tasks, that becomes the active window and the pedals are useless until you move the cursor back to the video and click it to make the video screen active so the pedals will work. ECS is experienced in making transcription pedal systems to control digital controllers, and you can type externally since they are not connected. Thus this pedal will work if you don't open and work in OTHER windows (Windows 10), or if you use a separate PC and writing software to write that is not connected to the one with YouTube on it.- This drastically reduces the ease of use. Why didn't ECS test this to know that they needed code to allow another window to be active while the pedal still operated a running video? That is bad programming.- AND, I found by accident the pedals also work with Amazon Prime videos / shows.- BUT, the ability to use the pedal by foot is still workable if I use a separate PC to transcribe and write what the video is covering (for my blog).- Thus, it is a pain, but I will type on a laptop, while using the pedals to control the video on my desktop PC. I can do this because I use Evernote which synchs between the desktop and the laptop. Not everyone may want to do this. Thus if you expect to write / transcribe in one window on your PC (I have no idea how this works with Apple) while watching the YouTube video and working the pedals in another, you can't do it.ECS did not provide ANY documentation or guidance, or even contact info for help in the box. I still may return this because my shoes are fairly wide and sometimes hit the wrong pedal, plus $50 is a lot for a bare box with a product and no clear documentation how to integrate the pedal with mouse clicking. There needs to be an indicator show up on the screen that says if the pedals are working or not.The picture shows my workstation environment, where I have a desktop with three monitors, thus I can transcribe on the middle one (white screen) while watching the YouTube video in the larger monitor. BUT, the inability of the pedal tech to allow you to work in one active wordprocessing window while running the video in another is limiting. So, I have to use the separate laptop at the right to transcribe, which the cat likes to block anyway. Now, below is my original, glowing 5 star review which I have left as is, but reduced the rating to 3 stars:It looks just like the description page. It works with YouTube videos like it says ( however it may not work with other software unless they use the same internal code as YT). BUT, for $50, you would expect SOME type of instructions but there are none. Only the device and cable are in the box. The cable is long enough to reach from a USB extension box to the floor without a problem. Plug the unit into a USB port, start a YouTube video with your mouse cursor, then press your foot in the middle. It will keep running, but if you let off, it stops. If you press the left button, it rewinds 5 seconds. If you press the right button, it fast forwards 5 seconds. If you press and hold the side pedals they go into fast reverse or fast forward to the start or end of the video. Try it first on a short video so you can see the progress ribbon move quickly. You have to play with it to learn what happens if you use the mouse vs while also using the pedals.I am a blogger, and need to write notes on YouTube videos, and this works great to backup to repeat a section or stop while writing. Right now, it is chilly in Florida so I am wearing some UGG boots which are wider than shoes or my normal sandals, so the clearance between the side pedals is very narrow. It is night and it is hard to see the pedals in relation to my boots, so you have to work out and learn how far to move your shoe left or right to hit those pedals. But, this assembly is much better quality than other cheap junk out there (read the reviews on those sites) since ECS makes professional transcribing equipment for other devices. The unit is also HEAVY so it doesn't slide around as you move your shoe. In this case, you get what you pay for. It just works and I just got it today, and after using it successfully for 10 minutes, I went right to Amazon to share my opinion of this device (Jan. 28, 2019). If I encounter issues, I will return and add them. Good job ECS!
