I have a garage that is accessed only by the garage door. Whenever the power is out, I cannot get inside to release the door opener. I installed this device and it works just fine. It was not difficult to install with a drill, wrench and screw driver. One caveat: I found that the cable needed to be attached to the garage door opener release lever to provide enough tension for the lock mechanism to operate.

We moved into a new house and the previous owner had not given us the key for the existing lock. It is likely she didn't know where it was in the first place as these are often "set and forget" devices for emergency's only. The only way to get into our detached garage is by opening a bay door. And both bays are opened normally with the motors. So I was particularly concerned about being able to get to our cars in the garage during a power outage. This device was easy to install and performs the function perfectly. A nice peace of mind for something we may never need but if we do, we will be super happy we have it.

Easy installation, two carriage bolts and a couple nuts and washer and a helper ( helper optional) this job will be done faster than the first beer Friday night in a central Wisconsin tavern !

I installed this and the first time I tried to open the door it disengaged and the door came back down hard. I had to extend the cable with a zip tie.

Our garage wouldn’t work after a power outage. Couldn’t even get into the garage so we were completely locked out. The remotes wouldn’t even work. We have one of those garages at a condo that has no back door. Ordered this key and lock, it arrived fairly quickly and my maintenance man was able to push the old lock through the garage to open it and installed this new one. It’s great, thank you.

This item works as described, but external measurements are inconsistent. This item calls for a 0.75 inch hole drill. After drilling a 0.75 inch hole, the lock cylinder can only enter halfway and will be stuck. It turns out that the lock cylinder’s diameter goes from 0.75 inch at the tip to 0.78 inch at the base.Further modifications have to be made for fitment.

The metal wire was about two feet short to meet the garage door opener. We improvised to make it work but disappointed I. The product

Didn't know that the cable was so short, expected it to be much longer.
