Repainted the lower of my evinrude XP. Looks great, but it is a VERY dark blue/black and did not match the original XP metallic blue. Still looks great and the paint did not run or drip as long as sprayed correctly. Sand first and do multiple coats.

This paint is a bit pricy but worth it (metallic paints tend to cost more anyway.) It sprays evenly without sputtering or running. I've only painted the engine cowling (cover) so far but it looks great. I've done lots of spray painting in my 62 years so here are a few tips: Surface prep is critical and should not be underestimated. Sand with progressively finer sandpaper. Sandpaper is graded. The higher the number the finer the grit. The grit you start with depends on the condition of your original paint. Gouges or scratches should be smoothed over first with perhaps a grit of 500 and work your way up to 1000 or higher remembering to wipe off paint dust between sandings. If your paint is merely faded and not flaking, you may be able to simply apply a deglossing agent to create a surface for new paint to adhere properly. If you get down to bare plastic or metal, those areas should be primed first. Shake the can upside down to get the best mix. Always take a few practice sprays and a scrap surface before working on the actual item. ALWAYS keep the spray can 90 degrees from the surface and as vertical as possible. NEVER stop when you are sweeping the spray or you risk running. Don't stop spraying until you are several inches past the item. Also, do not spray too far from your item or the paint will dry in the air leading to dusting of the paint. Moreover, get close enough to the surface so the paint goes on wet. Overlap spray passes to avoid dull looking lines. It's best to do several coats (letting each coat dry throughly) followed with sanding with 1000 grit or higher between coats. The final sanding can be with wet sandpaper for a superior surface. Apply a good wax or sealant after final coat has dried. BTW- buy a respirator rated for high VOC aerosol paint. A dust mask will do little to filter the highly toxic gasses in spray paints.

It's more black than blue. Im not sure if they gave me the wrong paint or if that is there definition of "metallic blue". No a fan
