This is a great tool for organizing the things I'd need to take in an emergency, but I would definitely not consider this any level of fire resistant (and certainly not fireproof) in an actual fire. There's no fireproof lining on the inside at all, so as long as you're alright with that, it's a great locking organizer for important docs, portable hard drives, etc.

So far it’s working out great I decided after all those fires in California that I needed something that I could just grab and go and I wound up condensing all of my important documents and military records, titles, birth certificates, etc., all in one easy place and I’ll take it with me everywhere I go It’s the size of a small briefcase.

I recently gave my fireproof document bag to my mother in law. I was looking for something bigger to hold a few more items, and add an additional layer of protection.Firstly, I did a lighter test on the outside, holding the flame to the skin for 15 seconds and saw no change to the skin at all. No discoloration or charring at all. So that’s good. I also tested the zippers cloth and it fared well. Put off a bit of a smell but showed no degradation. I was disappointed that it does not in fact have a waterproof zipper but it is metal.The case is appointed well with numerous pockets and files as well as a configurable bottom compartment. Ideally the inside would not get overly hot but I question how the materials would hold up to heat that may not harm the paper, but might melt standard plastic and upholstery.All that being said, I’m using this inside a UL rated fire safe as a way to organize and add an additional safeguard against temperature spikes. (I also put used silica desiccant packs in there as well as they will release the moisture as they heat up).I would never recommend this as your primary long term storage for important documents. For temporary storage or for a bit protection while traveling this should serve well. While I doubt that it would fare well against a house fire for any length of time. The non waterproof zipper is a disappointment but at least it’s not plastic. The zipper won’t keep water out very well. Sadly this disparity brings into question the other claims.I’m not calling this case a complete dud, it does offer a level of protection. I just want to set expectations. Again this is not serious fire protection, but it might give you some leeway if the fire is not very serious, or put out quickly. If you are looking for more protection, research and look into a good fire rated safe. You may be surprised that you don’t have to break the bank for decent protection. If this fits in it great.
