Left it on over night, so over 8 hours, to melt the wax as reviews said it takes awhile. The picture is all it does. The "lava" just sits there as a blob at the bottom of the glass. It's not functional as more than a light, which is extremely disappointing

I tend to leave the lava lamp on over multiple days at a time and it has not had any issues. It is used primarily as a night light and much joy comes from that. Upon receiving it and powering it on for the first time, it can take a lot of time for the "lava" wax to start moving.
