Each hammers' head contains a canister full of steel shot that creates a dead blow effect, sustaining impact, maximizing force, reducing rebound, and absorbing the shock of impact. The handles are reinforced with steel for strength and also feature a knurled texture for improved grip. The flanged back end of the handle won't slip past your grip. The ball pein type has a steel face and pein which allows for conventional use in striking punches and chisels, as well as shaping and straightening unhardened metals. The standard, slim line, and sledge head one-piece types have a durable, hot-cast urethane coating which resists chipping or splitting, and is non-marring and non-sparking. The hot-cast polyurethane coating also reduces noise when striking metal.

I've gone through several cheap "Harbor-store" dead blow hammers. This one by Gearwrench is very nicely made by comparison, with a grippy handle and no sharp mold seams. Makes me wish I'd known about this brand's quality before now.

If a dead blow hammer could be called luxurious, this would be the hammer. In my opinion, this is the way all dead blow hammers should fill in your hand. The handle is very comfortable, and the weight is nicely distributed.
