I like this, and it has a lot of nice features. It's responsive, and it's easy to turn the light on and off. The only thing I don't like about it is that it turns on/off by opening/closing it. That seems like a good idea, but after I'm done using it and I want to wash it off, I can't turn it off. Then I want to dry it, and I have to leave it on because I don't want to dry it closed. It eventually times out and turns off, so it's not a big deal. Other than that it's great.

With all the cooking and grilling I do I often need to know the internal temperature of food to get it done just right, especially when trying to get different levels of doneness at the same time. To accomplish this I have used an instant read thermometer, so when my old trusty one died, I picked this one up as a replacement. The thermometer has a very nice look and feel to it, with a big display and a bright backlight when needed. The unit shuts on and off automatically when you unfold the probe. As far as instant read goes, it looks to have a 2-4 second response time which is as good if not better than I expected. This thermometer can report the temperature in degrees C or F (good when I get cooking directions from my European friends) and has a convenient HOLD button so I can take a temperature of say a turkey in the oven, hit the hold button and read the temp without sticking my face in the oven (see note at end). The metal probe on tis thermometer is 4-1/4 inches long which is plenty for all I need it for. This thermometer also has a calibrate function so you can calibrate it if it gets out of ‘tune’ (I actually did this because my thermometer was about 3 degrees high on receipt; instructions were provided in the box). It runs on a CR2032 coin battery which helps to make it light but it does mean you need to have some on hand. Grill Kings have even put a convenient temperature/doneness chart on the front of the thermometer, which I find to be super useful. Finally, it has a magnetic back which I find to be extremely useful when grilling.There are a few cons however. As mentioned above you do need to have replacement coin batteries on hand. Also, the display when the backlight is off can be hard to read (the contrast between the display and the numbers is not very good), and the backlight has a very short ON time; I wish it would stay on for a few seconds longer than it does. Finally, this thermometer itself is made of plastic, so I have to be aware when using it around my cooktop or grill so I don’t accidentally ‘cook’ it (this is where the magnetic back really comes in handy).Overall, I highly recommend this thermometer. It is a game changer for me in the kitchen and the BBQ and at this price a steal in my opinion.A final note: this thermometer is NOT intended to be left in whatever you are cooking. It is not oven or grill safe in that regard; just be aware of this.

12-27-24 I killed my old one while rinsing off bbq sauce, so this one has some water qualities although you can't leave it submerged for very long. Clean it off makes it a breeze, and I won't have to be so careful. I appreciate the hold button on this and it's an actual button not a touch screen that way if you're in a position reading the back of a piece of protein and you can't read the display just have your finger on the hold button press it and then you can pull it out and that temperature will still be on screen. The printed on, quick reference temperature guide is a nice touch. It's magnetic so you can stow it on a cooler spot on the body of your grill or over your range hood. No complaints for me It works just as designed and I would order again.Hopefully my written and photo reviews are helpful, Thank you!
