I was happy with my purchase at first; I really liked the pan and wanted it to be my go to for camping.I followed the instructions on how to wash it and how to season it.Next few days, I cooked in it on my stove. Eggs, potatoes etc. So disappointed that I could see black on my food. After cooking, I cleaned the pan with warm soapy water and wiped it dry; fortunately with a clean rag this time and not my good kitchen towel, like yesterday. It wiped black out of the pan, again! What the heck is going on, I don't know. I'm returning it now. I really wanted to like this pan!

I've been extremely happy with the purchase of the 3 different sizes of these skillets. I was looking for a cast iron pan that I could use at home but also throw in my pack and take camping that didn't have the weight of a full size Lodge cast iron pan. The nitrile finish on them is a huge plus and so far they have been holding seasoning extremely well! These have replaced all non stick pans in my home.

Great pan. Was really surprised at this pan but didn’t like how it was shipped. Was shipped in a box with cans. The pan was not in a box or protected in anyway. The cans were heavy soup cans that could cause damage which they did by denting the bottom of the pan a little. Not good. This type of pan should be boxed by itself to protect it from getting scratched. Was really disappointed in that it was scratched on the bottom from the cans. Unbelievable really they did that. The pan itself is really good quality with a smooth finish on the cooking surface. Once seasoned it’s pretty much non stick. Cooked scrambled eggs with no problem. Really good solid pan. Just needs to be shipped better by itself in its own box wrapped in paper or something to protect it. The picture’s show some seasoning run off after I seasoned it. You can see where the scratches are though because the seasoning didn’t take in those areas for some strange reason?? I just need to season it better.

Compared to the leading brand of cast iron skillets this GSI Guidecast skillet has a much smoother cooking surface, is much more lightweight and even has a much more comfortable handle. This pan seems like it should be more expensive than it is. The factory seasoning Is adequate, improves with use and performs very well. I have both the 10 inch and 12 inch sizes.

For anyone who knows cast iron, these fry pans are an amazing find!! Old heirloom cast iron was thin, and glass smooth. This provided ease of use and nonstick performance. These skillets are ground very smooth inside and are indeed light! To buy such cast iron today is still possible, but would cost you 6X what GSI charges for these gems. I have every size and model that GSI offers, and I bought extras for both home use and camping. These skillets season extremely well. These are NOTHING like the cheap lodge cast iron that most people know and think is normal! This cast iron is an unbelievable value!

I really like this pan and enjoy using it on my induction stove. Unfortunately the handle got loose after just over a month of average use. If it were not for that I would be very happy. I will see if I can find some way to tighten up the rivets.
