It works for me, though I don't do any major repairs to my guitars. It has a lot of items in it though and that makes me think that I should be able to fix more complex issues with my guitars.PROS:1. High-Quality Tools: The tools included in this kit are made of robust materials that can withstand the rigors of regular use. They are resistant to rust, ensuring longevity.2. Comprehensive Kit: This set includes everything needed to maintain and repair a guitar. From wrenches, screwdrivers, files, to a work mat, and a neck rest cradle, it's all there. It's a one-stop solution for guitar maintenance.3. Practicality: The inclusion of a work mat and neck rest cradle makes it a functional workstation for any guitar-related tasks.4. Great Gift: For musicians and guitar enthusiasts, this is an excellent gift. My brother was thrilled to receive it and uses it regularly.CONS:1. Lack of Instructions: The kit does not come with a detailed instruction manual, which might be problematic for beginners. Some online research or prior knowledge is needed to use these tools effectively.

The quality of the tools varies, but for the most part, these are pretty good. I like the needle files, the string spreaders, the nut wrench, the neck gauges, the pocket truss rod wrenches, the two string height cards, the fret rocker, the straight edge, the leveling bar, and the carrying case. The various string cleaners are not all that useful unless you are a touring musician and sweat heavily on your guitar nightly. For most players, they are just filler. The masking tape is useless as it's only slightly wider than a fret wire. Some graphite/nut lube would have been a nice addition, or even some fretboard oil. I'm also a little annoyed by the slew of loose hex wrenches; a small set of heads for the screwdriver would have been nicer. All that said, if you are just a hobbyist (as am I), this is a great way to get some workable tools to do minor luthiery at home. It will give you a basis to decide what, if anything, you need to get better versions of.

Overall, this is one of the most comprehensive kits I have seen. The tools are not just cheap copies of better tool, but can actually be used in guitar maintenance. It comes with just about everything you need to get started. I am happy with the kit and I would get it again.

This came well packaged. There are a whole lot of tools here and some of them are very good. If you're just getting into working on guitars, you'll find a lot of these tools useful. The fret leveling beam is a bit on the light side, but it is useful and comes with a variety of sandpaper strips of differing grits. There are a bunch of allen wrenches. If you need a particular Allen wrench, odds are it is here. There are extra long truss rod wrenches. Very useful. The fret rocker is smooth, unlike the many cheap ones on the market that will damage your frets. There are feeler gauges, which need to be wiped clean of oil before using. The nut files are varying kinds of iffy, so better to wrap a string in 400 grit sandpaper, a different sized string for each nut slot. The neck rest is good. The screw driver is also good. There is a neck relief measuring beam, which is only good for 25.5 inch Fender scale. Having one for Gibson scale would have been nice. Also, you can use the 25.5 inch beam for 24 inch short scale guitars. Just put the first notch over the nut. There is a fret crowing file which is fine to use, as long as you're careful. There are also various string cleaners and fret board clearners, which are useful. Overall, this is a useful set of tools. And for just under 130 dollars it is a reasonable value for money.

If you own one or more guitars (or basses) and you are interested in getting started doing your own repair or setup work, you can certainly do worse than starting with a tool set like this. The components in this kit, while not top quality, are certainly adequate and will get the job done. If you get more serious in your quest to become a guitar tech, you may want to replace some of these tools with higher quality brands, but these should suffice for most of us.At first glance, the current price on Amazon of about $130 may seem a little high. But if you were to price out the individual components of this kit at suppliers like StewMac or Music Nomad, the price could easily be two or even three times the price of this kit. Plus, this kit is pretty comprehensive and provides nearly everything that you need to get started.I have been playing bass and guitar for over 50 years and have always done setup, repair, and modifications to my own instruments. As a result, I have accumulated a number of the tools that are in this kit. Plus, as a do-it-yourselfer and garage mechanic, I have a large number of mechanical tools at my disposal. But I still felt this kit could fill in some blanks in my collection. The Amazon listing contains a very comprehensive list of the items in this kit along with a good description of their function, so there is no point trying to duplicate that information in my review. However, here are a few notes on some of the items that I thought would be of interest.• Guitar Neck Notched Straight Edge - This should work on most standard size guitars, but will probably not fit your bass. Not a criticism, just something to keep in mind if you play bass.• Guitar Feeler Gauge – This is a standard, off-the-shelf mechanic’s feeler gauge set. Nothing wrong with that; it will work just fine. It does, however, have some oily residue on it that shouldn’t get anywhere near a guitar. A thorough cleaning with brake parts cleaner or alcohol is in order before you start using it.• Guitar Nut Slotting File Set – This is a standard, off-the-shelf welding torch tip cleaner set. Again, noting wrong with that. It is a well-known hack for guitar nuts. In fact, I have a set like this from my welding cart that I have used for my guitar work. Just be aware of where is came from so you will understand the strange sizing information on the set.• Guitar Pocket Truss Rod Wrench (6.35 & 7 & 8mm) – If 6.35mm seems like an odd size, that’s because it is equivalent to ¼-inch.• Carrying Case – This little zipper case will hold some, but certainly not all, of the tools in this kit. Also, it looks like the maker of this kit acquired off-the-shelf case as opposed to designing one specifically for the tools included. The tools are kind of stuffed into this case and are difficult to keep organized. In addition to the last item mentioned above, the larger items in the kit (fret leveling beam, notched straightedge, etc.) can not physically fit in the zipper case. I am using the cardboard box that the set came in for storage until I figure out something more permanent.Despite this, I still think this kit is a good value, especially if you are just starting out setting up and repairing your own guitars.
