I was able to confirm a very expensive cable did fail. This also works for network cable testing.

This HDMI cable tester is a no-frills, budget-friendly tool that effectively diagnoses common cable issues. It quickly identifies open, shorted, or mis-wired connections, making it a handy device for troubleshooting HDMI problems. While basic in its functionality, it gets the job done and is a worthwhile addition to any AV toolkit. If you need a simple HDMI tester, this is it.

This cable tester is good to find common faults in cables. The HDMI functionality is a nice addition to the standard network functionality. Both successfully found open lines, shorts, and cross-wiring (made by mis-wiring the cables). I was able to quickly test my HDMI cables and found one poor cable with a shared shield/ground line. Worked fine on a rechargeable NiMH AAA battery. Also has micro USB connector and cable for powering it from a USB port.Issues:- No mini HDMI capability, just standard size.- No one-second quick-test mode, just cycling through each line as you watch remote to be sure they flash in order. There is no quick pass/fail test.- RJ-45 plugs were hard to fit in RJ-45 sockets on tester.- No auto power-off function that I can tell. Stays on past 10 minutes.
