I had a pin cushion like this as a teen. I was happy to find one now.

It's been three years, and I still have this pincushion that I never wrote a review for. Better late than never. It's still in use. The fabric on the pincushion part has obvious teeny holes in it, but overall the colors are nearly as bright as when I got it--the white has gone a bit dingy because I leave the pincushion out in the open on a table or shelf rather than in a sewing basket where it probably belongs. I read some customer complaints about the filling in the pincushion--mainly being too hard or they don't like the material used to stuff it (not sure what it is without opening or tearing a hole in it--which I don't intend to do). I do have arthritis that can flare up pretty badly, though for the most part, it is controlled by medication enough for me to resume doing various needlework I have not been able to do for a long time. I still can be pretty weak but I have had absolutely no problem with sticking pins and needles into that pincushion. It is firm so that it will hold the pins in place instead of flopping out, but I really haven't had to push that hard at all. (Probably should do add a video). This particular style of pincushion reminds me of the ones my mother had (though she also had the traditional "tomato" design), and of the kind of pincushions that people actually gave me for gifts as a child. Back in "the olden days", girls got gifts like this whether or not people even knew if they actually sewed or not. (They also gave me things like handkerchiefs and little white gloves). The pincushion is an inexpensive Chinese-made item that is sold under several brands. Maybe the quality control isn't always on point, but the one I got is still useful and still looks pretty on my craft desk. I might order another color just for the heck of it.

I am so happy with my purchase! I was excited to find this style online as its exactly what my mother had in the sewing room growing up. It is perfect for me- you won’t lose your pins in this cushion. I am able to push pins all the way in to the head but I like that I don’t actually have to push them in that far for a secure fit. This cushion is much faster to get the pins in and out than others I’ve used. The other customers having trouble with pushing pins in, might be using the cheap pins that are a thicker gauge and aren’t as sharp as the good ones or perhaps old pins that need sharpening on a Emory strawberry, which I would recommend trying. Otherwise I’m not sure how you would have trouble pushing them in and I’m kinda confused by the negative reviews saying it’s useless but for decoration. Who knows and it ultimately comes down to personal preference.I already ordered another one in a different color and plan to buy them as gifts. Highly recommend!

I bought 2 brands of the 10-kids-Chinese-pincushion. This one rates 5 stars because it is softer; the pins puncture the cushion easily, making it usable rather than decorative. The external parts are well-made. Over 63 years of sewing, I have had at least 10 'Chinese pincushions', I love them because the body is one color which makes it easy to see the pins. This is a good price for a hard-to-find item; I will be purchasing other colors.

bought this one for my sister, and a different color for myself. These pin cushions are very cute, but not really usable as a pin cushion on a practical level. There is no cushion whatsoever in them, they are hard, very firm. Also, putting pins in and out of the fabric it is made of would shred the fabric . This is more of a decorative item for your sewing room than a usable pin cushion, and that is what it will be used for in both mine and my sisters case.

Reminiscent of the one I purchased over 50 years ago. Such a nice, well made sturdy pin cushion. I bought one for my daughter as well. We both sew and love the sharpening the pin cushion provides every time you return your pin to the cushion.

I had the same pin cushion -but with 12 kids around it- and needed to replace it. Couldn't find any with 12 kids, so I ordered this one with 10 kids. I really like it. It sits flat and holds lots of pins. The last one lasted 20+ years, so I hope this one does the same!
