I wanted to have fresh herbs in my kitchen year-round, and I've tried a few methods already, but this has had the best results so far! It was a little intimidating thinking I was getting into this Hi-Tech hydroponic setup but they made it super simple with great direction and intuitive interfacing, set up an operation were so easy. I've grown cilantro, parsley, sage, and a few types of Basil in it so far and I've been able to keep them growing well, and harvest off of them while they stay alive, which is exactly what I was looking for! The light raises up over a foot, giving plenty of room for plants to mature inside the system, and it is plenty bright and must have all of the full spectrum that the plants require. Plants require. I think this could be used for seeds starting and have great results as well. There's a couple of modes of light control and you can get it to trick the plants into growing much faster than under typical day/night lighting. I am so pleased with this kit!

A decent little hydro system for growing lettuce and greens. It works relatively well, but I do see how people are complaining about the light not reaching far enough to the sides. I am solving that somewhat by having it under our counter lights at the moment. It may not work so well when the lettuce gets larger. So far the pump is working fine. If the lettuce ends up getting large enough to pick and eat, I will try some other herbs. Maybe mint. This does feel a bit like a cheaper knock off from some of the more name brands, so definitely don't expect the highest quality.

This is a great hydroponics growing set especially with all the parts (without the seeds). It is very hard to grow plants from the seed itself, no matter what you do. But if you grow seeds in dirt or another medium, and then start from the seedlings then the system works great. You do have to watch for aphids and other small insects even if you have this system indoors.

I was excited to try this out because my garden this summer failed due to not enough sunlight. My wife and I want to grow herbs like dill, chives and parsley as well as various leaf lettuces. the Xilpo system looked like it would be great. It's not.Pros: Not a bad size - 3L capacity tank. Easy to put together Grow baskets fit perfectly Quiet pumpCons: LED lights do not extend the full length of the lamp which means the two end baskets on each side don't get as much light as the inside grow baskets. Seed sponges don't quite fit right in the grow baskets. Some of them fit right, others fell almost all the way down. Timer doesn't work. It is supposed to go into a sleep mode where the pump still circulates the water but the lights turn off to simulate night. I have to turn it off at night and no water circulates. Not sure if this is why half of my seeds failed to germinate or if there was an issue with the seeds. Will try fresh seeds.I wanted to like this but so far it hasn't shown me that it is worth keeping around. My leaf lettuce, which was on each of the far ends started growing inward trying to reach the light. I moved them to the middle so they would have better light. Essentially I have 6 grow baskets that will grow and 4 that won't. 40% failure is pretty high in my opinion.I can't recommend this.

2-month UPDATE: The pump survived one planting of lettuce, so I am getting ready to start a second batch after I finish cleaning it. No roots grew in to the pump and the reservoir and tray remained algae free the entire time. Some seeds never sprouted, so I will soak them this time around before inserting them in the sponges. I've upgraded my original 2-star rating to 3-stars, but that is the most I will give this product, as there are less expensive systems that achieve the same results, even some with replaceable pumps.ORIGINAL REVIEW: As someone who owns one of basic models from the name-brand company, I can confidently say that the quality of this XILPO system is noticeably inferior. Sure it's functional, but it feels flimsy. From the moment I first turned this on, the pump just keeps running all day until the lights turn off. Then it is quiet all night, so the water doesn't circulate at all. As the latter is hardwired in to the unit, there's no way to replace it. The original product description and included instructions stated that the pump is supposed to run once every 30 minutes, but that's not happening. Additionally, the baskets are not interchangeable with most other brands, so they need to be re-used if replanting. There is no reminder to add nutrients, so that will have to be closely monitored. Lastly, the planting holes are very close together, so plants will be crowded if some aren't removed.
