Good: Measurements are very accurate. Form size is quite nice.Battery life so far is extremely good; it doesn't drain the battery like Bosch and another brand I had.Bosch drains the battery even when the unit is off; only way to stop it is take the battery out. Also Bosch died in less than 2 years. Bosch battery life 1/10 Johnson battery life 8/10Compared to Bosch it does not have any shock/drop protection outside. It only does just plain length measurements; nothing else. It does have a memory stack,User interface - 3/10 - navigating the menu is not that fun. The 2 things you can change are the units and measurement from the top or bottom of the unit.Bosch was green beam> so it was extremly bright, so ws may to use outdoor except on very bright sunny day - Bosch 7/10. Johnson - red beam is not bight at all; not usable outdoor except it is dark outside 3/10.

Nice ergonomic shape. Be aware that IP54 is water splash / dust RESISTANT, not water / dust PROOF. IP54 is the same ruggedness as similar inexpensive meters. Realistically, no laser meter is as rugged as a chisel. They all need to be handled with care / not thrown into a tool box. This one is very basic, which meets my needs. Amazon's was considerably under list price. Purchased also because of the 2-year warranty and good support from Johnson. Too many early failures in the reviews of other brands for me to want to buy one without a decent warranty. Fished dental floss as a pull-through to install the hand strap. Cons: no case. Pros: good back light and it saves the measurement units previously selected. Decimal feet is my favorite.
