Josh's Frogs BioBedding HERMIT CRAB Bioactive Substrate
BioBedding Hermit Crab is the perfect substrate for your bioactive hermit crab enclosure! This substrate is a unique blend of ingredients designed to jump-start the bioactive environment. It helps to maintain a proper level of humidity, yet retains moisture in a way to easily provide humid hides, support burrowing and foster a community of cleaner invertebrates and beneficial organisms.
How to Prep
This bag has already been mixed with Quikcrete Play Sand! This means no mixing and no mess for you! Add mixture to the enclosure to a minimum depth of 3 times the height of your largest hermit crab. It is likely that no water will need to be added, but if the substrate does not hold its shape for burrowing, slowly add dechlorinated water until it is "sand castle" consistency.
Clean up Crew
Springtails and Isopods help keep your tank clean! They eat droppings and other unwanted things that occur in terrariums. We recommend dwarf whites or Porcellionides pruinosus isopods due to their small size and ability to survive in tropical environments.

Safe Plants
These plants will survive in the extreme environment of a hermit crab tank, require minimal watering, and are non-toxic. We recommend washing off all soil in the pots and replacing it with the Hermit Crab Biobedding. For parlor palm and spider plants, we recommend potting them and sinking the pots in the substrate to keep the roots from disturbing molting tunnels. Cryptanthus, air plants, and bromeliads can be mounted or planted directly into the substrate.

Perfect bedding for hermit crabs! Mine loved it! Great moisture retention and not too wet if you add proper water ratio. I used probiotic spray and springtails to make sure no mold grew. Never had a problem and its easy for the crabs to dig in.

I needed fresh bedding/substrate for my hermit crab. This is less messy than the shredded coconut and easier to keep clean.
