About this item

  • JAPANESE HAMMER WOODWORKING TOOL: It is a high-quality Japanese hammer called GENNO, ideal for adjusting planes, chiseling, and nailing. The head part is made of Bronze-finished high-grade Japanese carbon steel; it features a heavy-duty head and a beautiful appearance.
  • DOUBLE FACED OCTAGON HEAD: A dual head supports your woodworking. One side is flat, and the other is slightly domed. When nailing, start to nail with a flat face and then striking it with a dome-shaped surface to finish it. By doing so, the surface of the wood is not damaged. Since it is a octagonal head, you can also use the sides of the head to nail in tight spaces.
  • HEAVY DUTY DOUBLE WEDGE: As the wooden wedge and the iron wedge are driven in a cross, the head and handle are firmly fixed, making the hammer heavy-duty. All KAKURI brand products are manufactured in Japan and handcrafted by Japanese craftsmen.
  • COMFORT WOOD HANDLE: The wooden handle is made of natural Japanese oak wood that fits comfortably in your hand. It has a hard, comfort surface finish that gives a feel.
  • PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS: Made in Japan / Size:11.8×2.3×0.6 inches / Head weight: 115 g / Weight: 5.8 oz / Head thickness: 17 mm / Head: Japanese carbon steel (bronze plated) / Handle: natural oak wood

I love these Kakuri hammers. This is the second size I bought and it is perfect just like the first one. I'm excessively picky about quality and the minute details of construction. All the tools I've ordered (12 in the past two years) from Kakuri are stunningly perfect. There are no flaws, I can tell they are hand finished and dedication and commitment to making the best went into each one. I got about 6 of the KAKURI Awl Tool. Each is needle sharp and sharper than some of the chinese needles I've bought.

Love this Genno! I thought you might like to see it with other tools to get a better sense of its size. This is a 375 recommended by a number of teachers for beginners and also recommended by an expert woodworker for themself. I have really enjoyed all the KAKURI tools I have purchased. Still pondering what to apply to the handle if anything as the grain is slightly risen. The natural oil from my hand or?

This is the 4th Carpenter Hammer that I've purchased from KAKURI and it does not disappoint!I love the look and feel of it. This is the third GENNO style hammer that I've gotten thru them. I'm physically disabled and have a lot of chronic pain in my hands and wrists but I love woodworking! Having hammers of different weights and balances has been extremely helpful for me and these hammers are awesome! (4th picture includes the other KAKURI hammers I have)The hammer head is also really tough, as I'd expect from Carbon Steel. The bronze plating looks really nice.(Regarding comments from their other Bronze plated hammer, this hammer is NOT solid bronze, it states that in the description and title: "Heavy Duty Japanese Carbon Steel, Bronze Plated".)The hammer head was slightly loose from shipping, but one note that I want to make from other reviews that I've read about this is: Yes! When the hammer is mailed to you the hammer head might be a little loose. That is normal for this style of hammer and easy to fix, they even include these instructions with the hammer but it is easy: just tap the nail where the handle goes into the hammer head with another hammer and that will tighten the connection. It's a double wedge connection so it might come loose as your using it over time, but all you need to do is tap the wedges with another hammer, or smash it on the workbench (while wearing gloves) to retighten the connection.I wish I could give KAKURI 10 stars but Amazon only allows 5 stars.
