I think for the money this is a quality reel. I compared this with a Penn Slammer 6000, I bought the 5000 Kast King. The Kast king is heavier and very sturdy compared to the Penn. But I think the Kast King is not as fluid while retrieving, it feels a bit sluggish but it might break in a bit more I would imagine. But this at the price point, that King has, it is excellent and the reel is worth it I cant wait to use it more.

I’ve been through a lot of reels, but this one is hands down the best I’ve used in saltwater. Most reels start giving out after a while, but this one just keeps going, no matter how long I’m out there. The bail action is super smooth but still has that solid, firm feel, which I love. If you’re looking for a reel that actually holds up—whether you’re just getting into fishing or have been at it for years—I’d definitely recommend this one.

Great reel for striper fishing, smooth operation, excellent construction! Way better value for the money than reels that cost more than twice as much. Kastking is my new go to brand!

Let me start by saying I love the look of this reel. Now on to the important stuff. I ordered the 4000 series. It is light weight but seems to be a sturdy framework. It has plenty of drag for the 40lb. braid I paired it with. The retrieval is smooth. I wouldn't consider the handle knob a power knob but it is larger than a normal one and plenty large enough to power in the large ones. I am looking forward to many years of service from this reel.

The KastKing Megajaw 5000 is an outstanding addition to my collection of spinning reels, joining my Capstan Elite, Recon Saltwater, Zephyr, and Zephyr SFS models. This reel has surpassed my expectations in every way. It's incredibly lightweight yet durable, offers smooth and silent retrieves, and features a loud spool for an engaging experience when fighting a catch. The spool lip design enhances long-distance casting, making it a top performer. In comparison to my Daiwa Backbay 5000, the Megajaw 5000 stands out for being significantly lighter while delivering comparable performance.

I bought the 3000 series and have enjoyed casting and retrieving with this reel. The 6.2:1 is the perfect speed for this setup and my intended use of freshwater bass fishing. I loaded 12 lb. KastKing fluorocarbon line and it casts great. The action is very smooth including the bail arm when closing. The drag system feels great too and is very smooth. The whole setup feels like very nice quality compared to some setups I have that are twice the cost. Love the color scheme on this setup too. If there is anything I could change it would be to add the traditional reverse switch. But with a good drag system, I guess it's not needed. Good luck on the water!

I took a chance on this "off-brand" reel because of its brass gears, carbon fiber drag washers, aluminum body, one-piece bail, and its internal seals which are meant to keep water out. I bought the 2500 size to use for redfish and speckled trout on the Texas coast. The reel arrived in perfect condition in a very nice box and is a beautiful piece of machinery. I immediately noticed that it is quite a bit heavier and a little larger than my Lew's Inshore 3000 reels. I loaded it with 30# Windtamer braided line, put it on a new 7' Falcon Coastal XG rod, and hit the water.Due to its weight, it feels a bit out of balance on the rod, and all that weight also makes it less sensitive than a lightweight combo. I would NOT want to lug this heavy thing around all day wade fishing with light lures. But on this first run I was fishing from the boat with live shrimp under a popping cork where light weight and sensitivity are not as important. The reel casts beautifully. The anti-reverse is solid with no slack, which made for solid hookups on fish. The drag was smooth as silk. The 55# max drag resistance is way more than you'll ever need for a reel this size, but whatever.I only give it 4 stars because the 2500 is bigger than it should be and is larger than I prefer, and the weight of it makes the rod/reel combo feel unbalanced. But overall it is a good reel for the money in my opinion.

I received a junk reel. The label on it is a Shakespeare reel that I can buy for $15 at Canadian tire. Not impressed. Yes, it was packaged inside a nice stiff Kastking box but the contents are definitely not that.

This reel smooth as hell! No griding or anything. Feels durable, they used great materials and did not cheap out on this reel. Kastking, I think, is one best fishing company there is. Along with the reels, their rods are amazing too! I would recommend this company to beginners for sure. Affordable and great product.
