1 minute fix and we are cooking again. Kuhn Rikon is recognized as the Rolls Royce of pressure cookers so I am glad to source OEM parts.

Have enjoyed my Kuhn Rikon pressure cookers, but it seems like the Si valves should last longer. This is the second one and the previous one lasted maybe 4 yrs. I soaked the previous valve in vinegar/water and cleaned it with a toothbrush. Looked fine, but the pressure wouldn't build. This new one works, but maybe 4-5 yrs MTBF is the norm for these valves.

If you already own a Duromatic you know it's basicly the best, if after 15 years of use your seals get a bit hard ( normal ware and tear) then you just pop out the old one and put a new on it,Good to go for another decade or so.So few products are made like this anymore, thanks Kuhn Rikon for providing replacement parts that are easy to get.

One of the few parts of your Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker that you have to replace. But this is the first time I've had to do so in the many years I've owned it, and I use my 3.5 L Anniversary Edition Duromatic cooker multiple times a week. But elastomeric (i.e., rubbery) materials will eventually lose their elasticity, and can't be rejuvenated with a rigorous cleaning the way that other parts can.Since this valve is hidden under a plate, its function is also hidden--at least until it stops working. I could not figure out why the cooker would not come to full pressure, so that the main valve would catch and the amount of steam would abate. But it was this UL valve.I didn't find replacement to be too hard, although the instructions were strange, and include a paperboard template that is supposed to help you seat the valve properly. That didn't work for me, and I didn't seat the valve properly at first. But under steam, the valve swelled, and I could see the misalignment. I used a silicone pot holder to protect my hand and pushed the valve into place, and now it works as well as ever. I took photos of the old valve next to the new one (and yes, the color is blue, not gray).

I have a "Risotto Cooker" but I suspect this part is universal on Kuhn Rikon pressure cookers. My valve gasket was hardened and all the steam would escape making it nearly impossible to reach pressure. We had to cut the old one out but this new one just pops right in! Now my cooker builds up to pressure again. Yay! I love that KR sells replacement parts for their cookers. These things are an investment and gaskets and plastic can wear out with normal use. I used to only be able to order from the company but I'm super stoked that Amazon carries them now.

The valve works fine, BUT, I don't think the installation instructions are correct. The valve comes with a small piece of thick paper with a hole in it, and the instructions show using this paper for installing the valve. As I viewed the very minimal instructions, it looks like this paper is used to control how far the valve is inserted into the lid (to keep it from being pushed in too far). With my particular Kuhn pressure cooker, if I installed it per their instructions, the valve would not stay inserted, and when I tried using the cooker, with the valve inserted per their instructions, steam was shooting out the valve. So I pushed the valve all the way in (past where the paper ring would let it go) and where the valve now appears to seat properly in the lid of the steamer. The steamer now works well, and the valve is functioning properly. NOTE: this is the correct valve for my steamer as it matches the old valve I'm replacing.

Kuhn Rikon is the best pressure cooker on the market. Initial cost is higher than most other pressure cookers but they will last for years. Gaskets, valve housings, UL valves do need to be replaced after years of use but they are easy to obtain. Very simple to replace the parts.

I use my Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker most days in fact I have two. Eventually the steam release valve hardens and needs to be lifted with a knife to aid the pressure indicator and the cooker to work. Thank goodness the cover over the valve assembly is not very well built and fails within a year or two thus aiding the use of a knife. In the end I purchased a replacement valve which took all of ten minutes to replace with the aid of a small electrical screwdriver; you know the ones with a 2 or 3 mm flat blade. The valve is pushed down from the top side of the lid using the screwdriver to push the rubber seal through the hole: installation is the reverse using the screwdriver to push the top of the grommet through the hole. Voila a refurbished pressure cooker lid! Lets see how long the replacement lasts..

The valve on my Kuhn-Rikon was getting more and more loose and hissy, and finally the cooker wouldn't build up pressure without extra valve persuasion, wiggling it until it feels happy enough to seal and stop venting steam. So, after 8 years of regular use (2 or more times/week) it was finally time for a replacement. This valve is a bit pricey, but works like a charm! Push down from the top to get the old one out and the new one is pushed up from the bottom. I was worried about how it would go, but the old valve was loose and popped right out. No extra strength required to push the new one in, the whole ordeal probably took 15 sec or less. Works great! No more hissing and wiggling. The part came in original Kuhn-Rikon packaging. The top part/button differs slightly from the original valve it replaced. Otherwise, the gasket and the bottom look the same.
