Can do some apps that came with it but it is getting "old" for trying to add apps - plays the discs put in it fine.

It would only play a grand total of 2 bluray discs I had, wouldn't write a single on, barely played a DVD, and after MONTHS of fighting with it, finally came to blows when it refused to play a perfectly prestine bluray disc of my favorite movie THAT IT HAD PLAYED ONCE BEFORE. Long story short, I busted it. I do not recommend this player to ANYONE looking for a bluray disc drive for their PC or laptop. Save your money and look elsewhere.

When buying an external Blu-Ray/DVD player remember that you will also need software in order to play them. If you only need it for backup purposes then you are fine without - your operating system can handle this but in order to play discs you will need the software. This comes with a very decent piece of software which will do everything you need - and if you want you can upgrade to a more recent version of it at a cost, however this version is fine unless you want to create your own movies. Drive works well and does everything you would expect.

I have used this external Blu-ray writer to create Blu-ray discs from my Windows 10 laptop via the PlayMemories application. It is particularly helpful for a home video enthusiast like me or any one who shoots videos via Sony HD camcorder and needs to store the videos in Blu-ray discs for easy play back.

Don't get fooled by USB 3 Blu Ray writers. If you are burning Blu Rays, you are never going to exceed USB 2 write speeds. So, don't waste your money in on feature that you are not going to use anyway.Opt for slower - 4X write speeds and burn failure won't happen. The installation CD comes with the writer that has burn software, and also some other softwares, that you can install if you wish.So far I have burned just 25 GB Blu rays, but it advertises to burn 100 GB+ Blu rays, and also capable to burn HTL and LTH - both type of bly-rays. That is a good news for data archiver in you! But as I said, I have not burnt myself M-Disc

This is a great external, USB Blu ray player. Compact, quiet light weight and does the job. I use mine exclusively to scan Blu ray operas (5.1 audio) into my lap top computer (MKv). NAS for later viewing on home ethernet. Good value external player.

well, I think I finally have this product working. But it sure wasn't easy. I expected it to simply plug and play, perhaps with Windows Media Player. I've always been happy with LG products. But no, no Plug and Play: Windows recognized the peripheral drive but said the disc was "empty". So I loaded the Media Suite 10 software that came with the disc. That took about a half an hour. When it was finally loaded it immediately asked for an update, which took another fifteen minutes. Then it implied the software was minimal, and offered me upgrades for another $49 (on sale, no less). By then I was thoroughly disgusted, so I passed on that. Ok. I inserted a Blu Ray disc, and the PowerDVD software popped up, but wanted to search my entire computer for media. When I pointed it to the Blu Ray disc it gave me some arcane directory information, which led nowhere. So I quit the whole thing. I came back an hour or so later and re-inserted the disc. Finally PowerDVD popped up and began to play the disc. So it seems to work, but I have no confidence in the future.

nice and compact. a little loud when spinning up but quiets down to a reasonable volume when under use. the software included to watch blu ray movies is several versions out of date. upon installing you are prompted to either download a free update or upgrade to the newest version for a fee. this is not something i am counting against this product though. its just a reality of how software required to play blurays is licensed.

I purchased this to use with my 12" Retina MacBook, as I wanted a light low profile drive so I could put it in my bag without adding much weight or size. The size is smaller than I expected based on the picture, which is an added bonus. It works very well.Visually the top shows a bit of a faux wood grain type pattern in black. Though I would prefer solid black, the texture is dark enough & subtle enough that it's hardly noticeable.

I purchase this as a new item. I received it in about 12 days. It was not a new item it had been opened no instruction included. I purchased it to use with a new Toshiba I purchased, as it did not have a Dvd drive and was an I5 processor Window's 10. It would not recognize a Blu-ray disk installed in it. I purchased a Lg regular Dvd from Best Buy it worked fine. I was offered to return it for a refund. I have not. I will see if it will work on some of my older models later.
