I'm a professional musician with many years of experience. Long story short - I rubbed the mallet against one of my gongs and the rubber part fell right off of the way too thin stick within about 30 seconds. I tried the same thing with the second mallet rubbing it more gently and it made no sound. So I used a bit more pressure and about 10 seconds later the rubber fell off of that one. I'm saving the third mallet as a reminder to myself to also read the negative reviews on Amazon.

I bought these about a month ago and two of them have already broken. One of them the ball came off as I was using it on a gong. I don't know how long they are suppose to last but I expect a lot longer than this. Aside from that I thought they produced an interesting sound but I've never owned any others before so I'm not sure how they compare to similar mallets.

Great mallets, I use them for harp extended techniques but they were recommended by a percussionist so I'm sure they're versatile.

Very nice mallet set; just as pictured except for a color difference & easy to play with. I only wish that the stick themselves were made out of lightweight aluminum because I feel like whatever the material is that the handles are made from will break on me. The handles feel very flimsy but the sound that the mail it has produced are rich and gorgeous.

This set of friction mallets is just superb in the sounds it produces on gongs, cymbals -- small or large -- either rubbed on the surface or used as regular mallets. And at this price, it is a bargain! Recommended to all who like to hear something DIFFERENT from their brass "toys" ...
