Needed a working tester and this was came with dead batteries. Now I have to go buy batteries for it which will cost more than the tester.

This tester works good. I’m not an electrician by any means, so it took a little bit to figure out what it was telling me when the lights would light up or if it would make a beep. This tester works for more than just 120 v power.

This is such a handy gadget. To be able to test wiring without needing to damage the insulation is just great. I’ve often wished I had something like this. I’ve already used it a few times, and it reliably shows me what is hot, and what is not. Mostly I'm working with 120 volt AC current, but others have indicated that it will also identify 12 volt DC current, too, which adds nicely to its capabilities. This is a worthwhile tool, and I expect to get a lot of use from it.

When I first powered this on, it was beeping and the light flashing. I thought, how annoying, doesn't it ever shut off? Turns out, I was holding it near a power strip on my desk, about 6" away. I assumed you needed to touch the outlet or cord, but you don't. Of course, when you do, the beeping frequency increases. Point is, it picks up the electrical field, not just the current. When you press the "S" button, it makes it even more sensitive. So even holding it a foot away from something powered on, it will slow beep. It even works on USB ports and cables. I tried on the computer and the power strip. This thing is sensitive, but that's a good thing. I'm very impressed that something so cheap is so effective.

Most non-contact voltage testers don’t read down to 12 volts. Since most motor vehicles use a 12-volt system this limitation is inconvenient. It has always been a disappointment for me because I work quite a bit on vehicles and finding live wires is important when troubleshooting an electrical problem. I was sure happy to give this unit a try because it does read down to 12 volts. I was also happy to find out that it does work at this lower voltage level. It is listed as an AC voltage detector, but it did read voltage on my 12 volt DC auto battery. This is going to be really handy to have going forward. My only concern is that it is lightly built. I don’t think it has the most durable construction. However, I will take good care of it so that it lasts as long as possible.

...and that was to keep me from getting electrocuted when I changed a porcelain light fixture in our basement. It was successful at that. I haven't done detailed tests on various voltage ranges, and if I were a professional electrician this would probably not what I'd choose, but for very occasional use in our household it's good. I would also like to mention that you have to LONG PRESS the start button to get this to turn on. I didn't realize that at first and though it might be defective. That was my mistake, though. 😜

This voltage tester is a must-have for both pros and DIYers. The non-contact detection is a great safety feature, allowing you to identify live wires without direct contact. It’s easy to switch between sensitivity levels, so you can handle different tasks, and the bright LED lights help even in low-light areas. Compact and lightweight, it’s perfect for quick electrical checks on the go. A handy tool for any electrical job!

A great tool to have for electrical work, whether you are a pro or do light residential work. Easy to use, with a sensitivity mode for higher or lower voltage. I did find that it likes to beep after I have removed the tool from a voltage source, meaning it may have a slight delay when detecting voltage, which could be annoying. Otherwise the flashlight function is nice and easy to use.
