Advertised to read up to 2000 deg F, but wouldn't read above 1000 deg F. Exaggerated claim. Maybe I expected too much for an economical unit, but it should be relied upon to perform as claimed.

So the accuracy is ok for items that are cool. However if you need to use it on hot steel it will not read accurate. It shows less than half of the true temperature. Very easy to use, the instructions are clear. If youre looking for something to tell you forge temperatures look elsewhere.

This thing does not even mesure over a 1000`F. At first I thought I had it on a wrong setting. After messing with it a while I realized how this thing starts all over after 980.9`F back to 100.0`F. The thermometer displayed in the picture is not the one being sold. It displays AP-2732 (capable to measure over 2000`F) The one I got is the AP-985B (Does not measure over 1000`F). This is false advertisement.

I rarely write anything negative about a product, but this experience deserves it. I was surprised when this thermometer was supplied with a “heavy duty” battery and not an alkaline. First time I tried to use it, the display kept fading. I replaced the battery. Multiple checks of the same hot surface, gave me very different readings. 360, 115, 420, 650... nothing even close. My suggestion, buy something better for more money.
