I bought this pie shield in 2014. I love it. It still works so easily for me. I got a different brand that is adjustable a few years later. But this is my favorite. I finally decided to stop using the frustrating adjustable one this year after Thanksgiving and that is when I discovered the one I bought in 2014 is still for sale and that I really needed to review it since it is my go to pie shield when baking. No more burnt edges. I like to put topping on many of my fruit pies and it keeps it in in the center. It is so easy to clean and after 9 years of use it still works perfectly and I am getting another so I can make 2 pies at once and use only the "good" pie shield. Highly recommend especially if you make the same size pues every time. I always make 9 inch pies and this fits just at the edge perfectly.

Works great for keeping pie crusts from burning before the pie has baked. Just remember if you are cooking a recipe that requires you to remove it that it will be insanely hot if you need to remove it in the middle, and trying to remove it is pretty difficult while it's hot, cause it sort of flops around and isn't stiff, so handling it with pot holders can be tricky, cause it's likely to flop right into the middle of my pie every time i try to use it on a recipe where I have to remove it midway thru. But that aside, it does what it's supposed to. Just make sure you measure the widest part of your pie pan for size cause this thing isn't adjustable like some others. I use the 10" shield on the 9 inch pyrex pie pans and it's a perfect fit over the lip. 10" is the outer measurement, not the inner measurement, so it really fits only a 9" pan with a small lip.

It does its job well as far as keeping pie crusts from burning. This is very thick silicone (rubbery)--not flimsy or cheap at all. It does flop around so it is difficult to get on and off the pie when reaching into the oven ie. if you forgot to put it on. Metal versions are easier to just kinda toss it on with the pie already in the oven. For this one, take the pie in or out of the oven and put it on the pie when it is not in the oven. I like the size of this one better because I feel it fits more sizes since my pie pans vary from 8" to 10". It is too big for small, 8" pies. You will probably like the clean-up better if you spray or coat the underside with cooking oil. I'm not sure if the cooking oil will build up over time doing it that way, but you can always be sure to wash it soon after using it.

I purchased this about a week ago, and since then have baked several pies. I am by no means an experienced baker, and offer this review as a beginner/novice. Short story: I love it. It works great at protecting the crusts. It fits my 9 inch pans perfectly. It has done a very good job protecting the crusts. The pie is able to cook evenly and the crust is golden brown, not burnt. It washes really easily in the dishwasher, and this is so much easier than messing with foil like my mom did. I had a savory pie run over, and I did not notice any smell remaining after I washed it.This has helped this novice baker have confidence to try baking pies. The pies look good and I am very pleased with the outcome.

I bought two of these shields in Nov 2010, and have been very happy with this product - except that, as many reviewers have mentioned, this shield does NOT fit a 10" pie pan. I wanted to find out "why", so I pulled out my trusty tape measure. The results were interesting.1) I used a pie pan that was embossed on the bottom as being 10".2) I laid the Norpro shield on the pan, and it didn't come close.3) I then flipped the shield "face down" and measured it.... In Norpro's defense - the INSIDE measurement was exactly 10 inches.4) So, back to the 10" pie pan to do some measurements. Aha! Depends on WHERE you measure:... The pan's INSIDE edge-to-edge measurement = 10"... The pan's OUTSIDE edge-to-edge measurement = 10¾"I can honestly say that I never even considered the width of a pie pan's "lip". I expected the Norpro 10" shield to fit, simply because I "assumed" that a pie pan's given measurement was the outside diameter. And what are we commonly cautioned about the word "assume" ?In closing, some suggestions:I bought two shields so I could use scissors to "open" one of them. I draped the "opened" shield on the above 10" pie pan; this left a gap of about 3". I closed the gap with a small piece of foil - which the flexible shield held in place perfectly!I have a 10" Pyrex pie pan with handles, so there is NO shield that would "seat" properly. I just turn the Norpro silicone shield upside down, center it, and let rest on the crust. It has worked fine for me, and seems to give just as much "browning" protection.Hope this was helpful.
