Soft wood, okay hardware, not the simplest to put together, doesn't seem like it will last a long time. Rather expensive, in my opinion BUT keep in mind to actually buy (let alone learn the skills) to cut all these pieces to size, router out the channels, cut the acrylic, etc it would definitely cost a bit of money. So if you're a dining room table and a screwdriver kind of person then this could be a great project and you can join your neighborhood in having a little box of cool stuff in your yard. Take note this does not include a post, there's a separate kit for that. Also you should probably paint it, I've no faith in the finish it comes with and a bit of caulk might save you pain later. As a handy sort of person who has a big wood scrap pile, I don't think it's worth the money to me personally. Plus my woodshop was kind of laughing at me the whole time I was assembling it. Now that I've done it, I plan to modify it with a clear roof panel and some solar powered fairy lights so it can spend its life as a free little art gallery. So it could also be a good starting place if you don't want to deal with the basic/boring part of building it.

I recently got the Outdoor Library Book Box, and it’s truly a game-changer for promoting literacy and community sharing. This little wooden cabinet is not only adorable but also practical. With its 15.7 x 11 x 22.4-inch size, it’s the perfect spot to store books, literature, and newspapers for everyone in the neighborhood to enjoy. The design is simple but charming, making it blend seamlessly into outdoor spaces like parks, gardens, or schoolyards. One of the best features is its double-door setup, which makes it easy to access and drop off books, while keeping them safe from the elements. The shelf inside provides great organization, allowing for easy storage of different types of books and materials. It's also DIY-friendly, so you can personalize it to match your style or community needs, making it even more special. This book box is fantastic for encouraging people to share, donate, and discover new books in their local community. It's a wonderful tool for schools, neighborhoods, or anyone who loves books and wants to build a communal space for reading and learning. It’s a great way to give back and foster a love of reading!

This is a nicely made little free library box, with decent parts and construction and a nice satin finish for outdoor weather.DESIGN: The design is simple and well done, although, depending on where you place it, the roof may need more overhang in the front to prevent blowing rain from dripping inside from above the door. Our winds typically only come from two directions, so placing the box facing the other two directions may help keep rain from entering. The door is held closed by a magnet, but is far from a tight seal. The overhang on the sides is much greater than the front. I am guessing that they wanted to prevent people from bumping their heads on the front, so made it shorter. The roof is covered with a thin piece of metal that is already nailed neatly into place. There is no clearance for the door on the bottom, so if you sit the box on a flat surface, the door will drag a bit. The solution is to place tiny rubber or felt feet on the bottom of the box using adhesive. The door only needs an eighth inch of clearance. Also, I wonder whether raindrops that accumulate on the door window may run down the window and into the wood of the door, eventually compromising the wood. Perhaps the wood is all sealed up just fine, but I might want to put some waterproof weather stripping around the window, at least at the bottom.ASSEMBLY: The instructions for assembly are okay, but do lack some clarity and detail. For most of the assembly, all the pieces to be attached already have all the needed screwholes. However, those pieces that the boards are being attached to will only have one of three holes already drilled out. Once you get the screw in the first hole, you will being putting in the remaining two screws with no guideholes, so make sure you are putting the screws in straight and vertical. By not having all the holes pre-drilled, it actually makes the structure much stronger. The pine wood used seems rather soft inside with no fine grain, so pre-drilled holes can lose their bite if over-screwed. This is especially true of the tiny screws for the magnets, handle, and hinges. The walls and floor all go together easily, but putting the roof on can be tricky. If you position the roof too far forward, the door will not be able to close all the way. For this reason, I attached the door first, before attaching the roof. Once the door is attached and closed, it will determine the proper positioning of the roof. The back wall can also be a bit tricky as it is cut to be just slightly longer on the bottom than the two side walls. The bottom of the back is cut at an angle, and the angled cut is designed to drop below the bottom edges of the sides in order that the top of the back will line up with the tops of the sides.Otherwise, assembly is fairly intuitive. I did not try screwing in any of the hardware horizontally; I would always turn the box on its side or back (and sometimes propped up the box) so that all the screwing was done straight up and down, with full weight and maximum pressure. Upon completion, I did find that the magnet to hold the door closed was not working ideal, so I simply popped one of our flat round button magnets onto the existing magnet, and now the door more easily stays closed. All in all, it turned out pretty good; but I might want to extend the roof in the front, just a bit...

Product returned as there was no front door in the package . I was concerned on how flimsy the plastic was used on the roof as well .
