This is a great help in splitting stubborn calcium pills for my husband. He has trouble in swallowing the large pill. No plastic pill cutters could handle the task. I broke a few of them. I was splitting this pill with the knife - the halves were flying around. This splitter is an answer - doesn't require application of any strength. The cover keeps the pieces inside. I bought this because the basic spill splitter breaks or bends after short time of use. This cuts pills perfectly, but I struggle getting the pill centered if it is not marked. I will work great for the pill that has a score mark on it, but I'm still hunting for one what will also help center the pill.

This thing is pretty nice. I like that it does not have plastic incorporated into the design and the blade shouldn't dull over time. The only problem two problems. The first is that, since there is only one blade, the pill tends to crush, instead of split, on the flat side. The second problem I have is that the parts tend to grind on each other and make opening and closing it a slight bit of effort.
