I used a whirlypop for years but was so frustrated with it's clean up. The lid always felt gross no matter what I did to it. Now I just pop, wipe, and go! Set it on the stove, I don't do a thing to it, my popcorn is perfect every time. But my favorite part is the glass lid, it all cleans up so easily and I never get the ick over making popcorn now!IDK if $70 is totally fair as a price, but I will say after having it for months now, the money is long gone and I am so happy, that feels good enough for me!

When I got this popper the main handle was loose. There is no way to tighten it. I knocked it a couple of times with a hammer and it is tighter, but... wth? I hope it keeps. Meanwhile, this comes with a complimentary package of popcorn,... which, btw, is outdated. The box this came in (the product box and no outer box) was smashed and torn up. It's a miracle that the glass lid was not shattered! However, I've used it a few times and it is GREAT! Before this, I had one of those poppers with the lid that fold back, there is a rod inside the lid with a handle to turn so the popcorn doesn't stick to the bottom and burn. It was huge, clutsy, and hard to use. The oil on the bottom would burn and the whole thing became a sticky burnt oil mess. This new popper, does not do that. There is nothing to shake, nothing to turn, you just put the oil and popcorn in and it pops beautifully. There was one single unpopped kernel. No burns. And the oil did not burn or stick to the pan. It cleaned up nicely. This design is so simple, and yet effective.BTW, I used Orville Redenbacher popping corn. O.R. was an Agricultural Scientist and developed the largest popcorn "puff". If you grew up in the 60s and 70s, you've probably forgotten how small popcorn used to be, but it was about half the size it is now. Also, popcorn pops better when it is cold or refrigerated. So for best results, I recommend O.R. popping corn, kept in the refrigerator.

I have owned my Grandpopper for quite a while now and it get's used regularly. I look at myself as sort of a pro when it comes to making popcorn, I have it at least once a week, usually on my Friday movie night. So, how does the Grandpopper stack up in my arsenal of popcorn poppers? It's right near the top. Over the years I had drifted away from stove top, popping, it was a hassle shaking the pot, making sure the temp was correct, you know the drill. The Grandpopper changed all that. The bottom of the Grandpopper has this nice little cup built in the bottom, I add my kernels, my oil, my seasoning, set the popper on the second smallest burner on my gas stove, set the burner to heat level '5', I wait for the action. All the kernels pop.Clean up is easy too. I wash the glass lid in soap and water but I do not use soap on the kettle, it is just my thing, no one told me not to but the kettle surface is no nice, I just want to keep an corrosives off it. All I do is rinse it for the next time.If you like stove top popcorn, this is the way to do it.

After reading some of the reviews, I thought I'd give it a try. I will say this thing pops amazingly well! There is a slight learning curve - you may not get the heat perfect on the first try or the oil-to-kernel ratio just right. Keep trying! Once you see how well this pan conducts heat and how quickly it pops you will see it is worth buying. One thing to make sure of: once the kernels start popping, they will fling the unpopped kernels out of the well. Just give the pan a shake and they will go right back into the oil. This will help in getting all the kernels popped. Now the not-so-good parts (and the only reason for 4 stars): it is pretty flimsy in that the handle has a slight wobble and the edge around the pan is pretty sharp. This is not a deal breaker given how well it works. Would definitely buy again.

I followed the directions to the letter. The exact amount of popcorn, the exact amount of oil (I used avocado oil which has a very high smoke point) and the exact amount of popcorn. I set the heat to medium high with my gas stove. It popped, but only about half of the kernels popped and many were burnt. I stopped popping when it was 1 to 2 seconds between pops despite only popcorn being clearly only halfway up the sides of the popper. I use premium popcorn that works in my old popper, which unfortanetly broke and is no longer available. It was a mess. This looks solid in the pictures, but it is made of thin aluminum. I had my doubts, and they were woefully confirmed. I sent this thing back after trying to get the burnt remains cleaned. Don't buy it. That's all I can say.
