About this item

  • Necessary For Digestion - Made up of insoluble crushed quartzite or granite, grit remains in the bird’s gizzard to help with digestion. Grit is an essential part of your bird’s diet and should always be provided.
  • Age to Give - Start day 1 through 8 weeks of age. Broiler chicks from day 1 to 4 weeks. This helps establish correct feeding habits by sprinkling grit over their feed mash for the first week and then offer it free choice in a separate container.
  • Available In Different Sizes - Scratch and Peck Feeds Cluckin’ Good Poultry Grit is available in three convenient sizes: Chick, Grower, and Layer. We recommend you transition to our Grower Grit from 8 weeks to 20 weeks.
  • Better Nutrition - Using the appropriately sized grit allows for the maximum nutrient benefit from whole grain chicken feed. Use Chick Grit in conjunction with our Chick Starter Feed to provide your poultry with optimal nutrition from day one.
  • Promote Healthy Habits - In the wild, the chicks will go out and get the grit themselves, their mother will teach them to pick up little stones and they

SUSTAINABILITY COUNTS

A little birdie told us that sustainability is important to you. It’s important to us, too. When we source ingredients, we partner with suppliers who prioritize sustainability practices. We also strive to purchase ingredients as locally as possible to reduce our carbon footprint.

NOURISH TO FLOURISH

Complete feeds? Check. Healthy treats? Check. Daily supplements? Yeparoo! Appropriately sized grit is a must have for digestive health. The calcium in oyster shell or limestone is necessary to laying birds because each bird’s calcium need varies. And dried herbs? We call it Hen Zen for good reason.

THINK GOLDILOCKS

Chickens and ducks swallow food whole. Grit in the gizzard helps break down food into small particles which move through the digestive system to release nutrients. The key is matching the correct grit size to the size of your birds. Think Goldilocks, not too big and not too small. Just right.

Chick grit is essential for my baby chicks' health and digestion! I've been using it in their feed, and I've noticed a positive difference in their overall well-being. Chickens don't have teeth, so grit helps them grind their food in their gizzards, aiding digestion and nutrient absorption. It's easy to administer and ensures my chicks stay healthy and thriving. A must-have for any chicken owner serious about their flock's digestive health!

Purchased this when our baby chicks started to spend time outdoors foraging on the lawn. Appropriate sized granules for chicks & we have had no issues with crop impaction so far.

I recently tried Scratch and Peck Feeds Cluckin' Good Layer Grit for my backyard flock of chickens. This product offers a great solution for supplementing the dietary needs of my laying hens.I appreciate that Scratch and Peck Feeds uses all-natural and organic ingredients in their products. Knowing that my chickens are consuming a high-quality, non-GMO grit gives me peace of mind.I noticed that my chickens eagerly consumed the grit, which suggests that it is both palatable and beneficial to them. I appreciate the different size options available, which cater to various breeds and sizes of poultry. The texture of the grit is just right, allowing my chickens to easily pick and consume it. There are some larger sized pieces of granite in this bag which my chickens do not consume. If you bantom chickens I would check another source for smaller sizes.

I needed a small-sized grit that didn't contain any extra ingredients like crushed oyster shells for my 8 week old chicks since they are not laying eggs yet and don't need the extra calcium for egg production. This fit the bill perfectly. It is small enough for them to peck at, but not too fine that it is powder, and not too large that it does no good for their digestion.Speaking of which, if your chicks have runny poops, then you need to put them on this grit. Guarantee to firm up their poop in no time.My local feed stores have been out of stock (back ordered) of this type poultry grit for almost 2 months now. I shopped around online for poultry grit from other manufacturers, and this was by far, the best deal around here on Amazon.I also highly recommend their brand of Scratch and Peck feed selections. I purchase 40lb sacks of them from Azure Standard which is much cheaper than the prices here on Amazon. I just wish Azure Standard would carry this brand of Grower Grit.

I ordered a bag of grower grit and a bag of chick grit, curious to compare the grain sizes to each other and to the Manna Pro chicken grit. Off the bat, the content of Scratch and Peck's grower and chick grits are distinct in that the grower appears to be all white quartzite, whereas the chick seems is a more brownish-pink granite. I'm no geologist, of course, but the difference is worth noting. The chick has more fine powder at the bottom of the bag (not an issue for me). These are for custom potting soil blends, so I will have to report back later on "quality" as far as plants and drainage are concerned. The size of the grower grit was more consistent than Manna Pro and slightly smaller on average. If you are after quantity and don't care about color (Manna Pro is more of a grey-blue-pink), you will get a bigger bang for your buck with that product and are probably be better off ordering directly from Tractor Supply Co. Even with shipping cost, the per-bag total is less than it is on here... and if you order two or more bags at once, you'll save a pretty penny.UPDATE: The white grower grit doesn't look great after a while if you're using it as a top dressing for potted plants. Also, I purchased another bag of Manna Pro, and it was a much finer grain than my original purchase, more on par with this chick grit.

I've just started to give it to my duck, but he certainly dove in with gusto. Bantam ducks can choke on the size of grit meant for large birds (Mine is a Call Duck, less than 1.5 pounds, full grown.) This grit is a good size for him, and feels like a good consistency for doing its job of grinding up his food for him.Time will tell, in terms of whether he continues to digest his food well, but he's been on it for a couple of days and so far so good.Because he's a drake, (male duck), he shouldn't have all the calcium that any egg-laying female should have. This grit is good for drakes, and females who aren't laying any eggs, because it has no added source of calcium (like oyster shell). So my duck can get the grit he needs without having to ingest more calcium than is good for him.I also appreciate that it doesn't have any other additives like some of the other grits have in them -- such as vegetable oil or probiotics. He gets healthy fats and probiotics in his food, anyway, which is also from Scratch and Peck, and which I believe to be an excellent quality food.In the ingredients of some of the other grits on the market, they just list "vegetable oil". No telling what kind, what quality. Plus, oil goes rancid, and grit may be stored for quite a while.I'd rather my duck gets his oils and probiotics from a high-quality food which has not been stored longer than is advisable, (as well as from all the "free ranging" bugs he can eat, and from all that dabbling in the mud, which has *got* to be providing some soil-based probiotics... )
