I have cut several dozen 3/0 and 4/0 cables copper cables but it does take some grip strength. Other comments about the cutter being dull are both true and false. The manufacturer powder coated the blade AFTER sharpening them, so they actually get batter after 3-4 cuts when the power coat finish comes off. I am surprised at how well it works for the price. Would recommend and would purchase again.

Cuts through 4/0 like butter without needing to be sharpened out of the box, cuts all the way through, and cuts clean. Used on live 120v with 3 overlapped layers of 88 on the handles. Didn’t try cutting ACSR, as they’re not rated for it anyway.Seem built just fine - I would say the cheapest feeling aspect is the release tab, but it’s perfectly adequate. If you’ve got plenty of money to throw at tools, by all means, buy the insulated Klein/Greenlee/Knipex/whatever that cut ACSR too, but for the average working man who needs a set, my advice is don’t hesitate with these! At $30, I’m sure a few lemons escape QC, but I got a good pair.

If you are cutting thick copper cables, this is a very good too for you. I'd been using the old fashioned pliers type cutters for years and found it tough to go thru the cable at 1/0 thickness. With this ratching cutter, it is almost effortless. It also cuts rubbers hoses just as well. Gives a relatively clean cut, not super flat. Metal seems to be cheap but cuts well so far. Not sure how long it will last. But at this price, it is not reasonable to expect a long life from a tool.

Can't say about durability for sure yet. I am definitely impressed with what appears to be a decent tool. I have only used it a few times, but it easily cuts everything I have tried. Used it on a 2-2-2-4 SE cable. 4/0 aluminum, #2 copper, 12/3 mc, and an old 6/2 entrance cable. It cut them all easily and cleanly. I have shown it to several other electricians, and they were all impressed. One ordered himself one .

I am an Industrial electrician. These work just awesome for cutting tek cables.. Cut a lot of 14/3c, 8/3c, even 2/3c aluminum armoured tek. I was skeptical, but now recommend them to everyone.I wouldnt say that I baby them, but I know they are cheap cutters so I don't try to do anything stupid with them. Tried 500kcmil copper and I wouldn't recommend them for that.. But for 90% of tasks they are more than adequate. People can't believe they were 40 bucks.Gotta keep them tight and clean but for the money, great addition to the bag.

These are a great set of cutters. I use these cutters on a regular basis on the job cutting everything from 4/0 wire (although they do struggle a little with that size) to multi-conductor wire that my regular side cuts will not cut. The ratchet is smooth and regular allowing for a fairly even cut while the quick release allows me to cut into the sheathing so that I can crimp my lugs onto the x/0 wires easily because, lets face it, I am cheap, and if I can use a tool for more than one thing that is even better.Something that I am not to fond of with these cutters is the fact that the finger molding on the handles seems to be on the wrong side for my dominant hand, good for lefties though. Definitely not a deal breaker though.I will be recommending these cutters to my boss because the price would allow the company to purchase sets of these for each of the electricians that work in the shop and lets face it, if we don't have to go hunting cutters down from the high voltage guys, that makes us faster at our jobs.

I was looking for a cutter to help with 4/0 alum. wire, and this fit the bill perfectly! Inexpensive and will work great for as many times as I will need it as I don't wire for a living. I am sure it would hold up for many-many large electrical wire cuts, on at least the 200A services. Please refer to the size ranges for size info. On durability gave 4 stars as not sure how many 600 MCM wires it may hold up to.

For the price it is exactly what I paid for. Broke off a couple teeth so there is a dead spot but other than that works at good as the ones triple the price

This is an affordable knock off of the more expensive brands. It works, but it isn't so great as I was used to from using other brands. It doesn't cut as well. I tried it on some 500 MCM cable, and it didn't even start to cut. To be fair on that point, it only lists it's capacity at 400 MCM. In spite of these complaints, it is a useful tool. It is worth the $50* I paid for it.Summary: For the price, it is a good tool, but don't expect too much. If you want a better one, you probably should look at the cable cutters in the $200 price range. For example:.*When I purchased it the price was forty some plus shipping.
