The construction quality and tolerances of this tool seem to fall short. It’s difficult to tighten the blade enough for the crank arm to effectively cut the cable. When the blade touches the cable, it often sticks, causing the crank arm to continue turning without cutting. Despite trying various levels of pressure, from very light to more forceful, the blade either spins without cutting or fails to turn when enough pressure is applied. The lack of indexing on the blade, pressure plate, and locking plate contributes to the blade slipping, causing the crank to spin without cutting, ultimately leading to frustration and wasted time and money.

Item is a finicky to get to work but better than a hacksaw or side cutters. Mine came with screws falling out and holes not tapped well. I find it fussy to use. I hate having to "repair" or put something together that should have been ready to go out of the box.For the professional, just pony up the extra $15 and get the original from Klein.

If you didn't tell me this was not a name brand tool I couldn't tell. This worked very well. I had a few seconds of setup which is normal for any cable cutter from the store. But once you have it set up for depth it will work and work and work. It is a good value for the price and work just as well as any of the name brand ones that I've had over the years. I will be giving this to a young apprentice as a gift to save time and effort.

I ordered the BX/MC Cable Cutter Compatible with Easily Cutting Armored Cables - BX, AC, MC, MCAP, and Greenfield Cables for use around our condo as I have a number of improvement projects I am working on. This is a very handy cutter for the home improvement specialist and works as advertised. A little bit of practice to ensure proper cutting depth will have you cutting cable like a pro. This is a fine cutter for occasional use but I would not recommend it for constant use by an electrician who should spend the extra $ for a pro model. Overall a fine tool at a reasonable price for "Jim Fix it" around the house.

Let me start by saying that I am an electrical engineer, and I dabble in home DIY installations with MC cable, romex, and other cable systems. I recently completed a rewiring job that converted my home's old cloth insulated wiring with MC cable, which is MUCH safer.I already owned a Klein MC cable armor cutter and have been using this tool for a couple of years now, but when given the opportunity to trial this particular cutter, I thought I could give it a good comparison.First, I had no issues assembling the tool. The blade for the tool is stored in the knob of the handle, and spare blades can be stored here in the future.Next, I took the tool out to my shop to see how it performed. I cut a small piece of 12/2 MC cable off of my bundle and let this cutter take a rip at the armor of the cable. Getting the cutting wheel started was noticeable harder with this tool than with my Klein. After making my first cut, I figured out the reason why. It appears like this Salcod branded cutter cuts about 1/16" deeper than my Klein (I put them next to one another for comparison). On the 12/2 cable, this results in a longer and deeper cut of the armor, which potentially could cut into the conductor insulation (particularly on fuller MC cable like 12/3, 10/3, etc). This longer cut could also potentially cause problems with the sharkbite MC cable connectors that most electricians use for fastening into metal boxes. The little lever on the side that is meant for swapping between Standard MC and Small MC sizes also doesn't appear to alter the depth of the cut at all.In summary, this tool does function, but I am slightly concerned about the depth of the cut. If someone gets carried away using this tool, I see the possibility of damaging the conductors insulation underneath the armor, which could lead to issues in the final installation.

I've been using MC/Bx cable for multiple decades. Like most old-timers we use the tried and true method of bending the Bx until it snaps open, then cutting with diagonal cutters. This has worked for decades for me but thought I'd try out one of these cable strippers. The assembly instructions were a little bit hard to follow but I had a general idea of where everything went. The cutter just slightly penetrates the outer flex. Then a quick spin of the flex and it un-threads from the other section. This took me a few tries to get the hang of it. Once I could use it quickly it's much faster than bending and cutting. For what it does it works very well.

Decent product for the $. I followed the directions exactly (which had one confusing part) but I figured it out. I like the clever way the blade is shipped inside the knob of the handle - sure would be great if there was a spare blade included. Charge an extra $.50 and include an extra! When I went to try it, I absolutely could not get it to cut my MC cable. I was about to give it 1 or 2 stars but on a whim I tried reversing the nut that holds the blade in place as it seemed to be not holding tight. That was it. To the manufacturer, when you say clockwise or counterclockwise you should show which side of the tool you’re referencing in your instructions. Overall, it wasn’t that hard to figure out what was wrong, however with a bit more attention to detail / instructions my issues could have been avoided. Good value, would buy again.

The tool arrived without a cutting blade. None installed, nor any inside the package. And I don't know where to buy a blade for a specialty tool such as this. Therefore, obviously I cannot use the tool. I think a tool like this should come with the blade.Accordingly, I can't recommend this tool. 1-star because it cannot be used without a blade and no blade was included in my package.
