I've purchased 5 Journey ukuleles. 3 have been returns for various problems such as a bridge saddle slot cut much too wide, errors in the finish/stain, bridge separation, poorly fitted nut, etc. These ukes go on a double sale sometimes when it's listed as a 50% off prime deal with an added 50% off coupon. When that happens these ukes are about $40 - $50. That's the only time it's worth risking buying one of these.

I am kind of an amateur when it comes to the Ukulele. My previous one was not concert size so it was a little weird getting used to the differences. It took me more time than I am proud to admit to tune initially but it has been pretty consistent since then. It is light weight and the case is very nice. Sound quality is much better than I expected. I am very happy that I took this next step in improving my skills with this Ukulele as I am sure it will last me for quite a while.

As some people have mentioned, these instruments are pleasant to play and produce a respectable sound. However, I have experienced cracking sounds during regular or heavy usage, which is disappointing.

I purchased a Journey sitka top concert ukulele at a Prime discount. Since I canceled my Prime account, I had a friend order it for me using her membership. I was happy to receive the discount, but that wilted away as soon as the ukulele arrived. The C and E tuners are grinding, and are essentially now frozen in place. The saddle fits loosely in the bridge slot, and it leans towards the peghead. I uploaded two photos of the sloppy saddle, if you care to take a look for yourself. The volume and tone are poor. There's a fret marker at the 14th fret. Really? Who does that? That's like putting one at the second fret! Does Journey just put fret markers at arbitrary frets? There are two piezo discs glued underneath the top, close to where the bridge is located. They produce a very percussive sound every time a string is plucked. It's impossible to get just a string tone from them. I ran them through an impedance matching equalizer/preamp pedal, but there's no way to clean up the ukulele's output. There are several cosmetic issues on this ukulele to top it off. This is just a novelty ukulele, in my opinion.The included gig bag is an oddity. This ukulele runs small for a concert, yet you have to force it into the bag, top to bottom. The bag's exterior has some strange "features" that will have no value to the ordinary owner.

I got this over a month ago and I'm pretty much a pro now. Ok not really, but I am having a LOT of fun with this.I got the concert version so it's a bit bigger than the soprano. I'm a bigger guy; so I figured it would be a better fit and it is!After tuning it a couple of times it has stayed in tune which is nice. It seems like decent quality and has a pick up on the bottom. I connected it to my computer with a pre-amp. I was able to record directly into Adobe Audition and then apply effects to it.I have no complaints

Cons: G string that was delivered to me is recognized by tuner as E, Headstock is somewhat small compared to my Amahi ukulele and the side of the fingerboard is not smooth straight there are humps. Top Side of the nut is not polished wellLike: body top is solid wood. Sound is a bit mellow than my laminated uke. Nice gig bagReturned the item for exchange hoping that the replacement would be buch better.

I really like this ukulele! First off, it is very well constructed. Many years ago I took a woods class where we constructed our own ukuleles, so I can appreciate the wonderful construction of this one. The body of the ukulele has a very nice curve in the back and a small “electric guitar style” curve in the front. The neck is straight and well connected, with very nice quality fretboards put on the front. I haven’t played in so long that I was a little rusty tuning it, but I think I got it close and it sounds really good. It comes with a small rain bag and the ukulele is ready for a guitar strap (not included). I really love the case it come in, it’s very nice. There are cushions to support the neck and a Velcro strap to hold it in place. The padding is thick and protects the ukulele really well. There is an outside strap for carrying the case and lots of pockets to hold anything else you want to keep with the ukulele. If I had any critique, I would have loved another coat of poly over all the wood to make it a little smoother. That’s just me, though, others who are more accomplished players may have a different opinion on that. Overall, I really love this ukulele. It’s very well built, has a nice sound, and comes in a wonderful bag. I would definitely recommend this to anyone!

I've played a number of inexpensive Chinese-made ukuleles in the $50-$70 range from Mirio, Vangoa, Caramel, etc. They're all pretty well-made (some better than others) and sound decent. Most will work just fine for the average player.I can't find much visually, sonically, or mechanically about this Journey ukulele (currently $149) that makes it superior to those others, BUT it comes with a thick, well-padded case (the others come with thin cases) and a built-in piezoelectric pickup. But I see well-reviewed models with pickups from Cordoba (the 15CM-E EB, currently $84, also with a solid mahogany top) and others for less.Also, my sample came with very high action at the nut, so it will have to be set up (have the action adjusted) before it's ready to be played. In fairness, all of these inexpensive ukes need a set-up to play optimally, but the Journey had one of the worst actions out of the box.Having said this, the Journey does sound nice, the neck looks good, and the intonation is good. It has fret markers and a little Rosette on the sound hole. If you're looking for a uke with a good travel case, this one is good, though I'd wait and see if the price goes down. You can buy a comparable uke and a nice travel case for less than its current price ($149).
