I use it to bench test ignition systems. It worked well even at 15mm gap [~45KV]. After several minutes of on continuously the clear guard deformed due to heat [remember arcs are 50000°]; it still WORKS!

Good spark plug tester that shows you the amount of spark your spark plug is producing

I used it to check and see if i was getting a good spark from my coil pack on my outboard motor. It worked perfectly and was easy to operate and see the spark.

I bought two if these from another supplier a couple years ago and couldn't use them for my twin garden tractor engine because of the wide minimum gap. I recently couldn't find my other testers and decided to modify these for small engines. I first used a die to cut the threads deeper, but doubt that made any difference. I ended up filing about a 1/4 on the inside thread side of the adjustment knob so the adjustment was closer to a small engine spark gap.. I think some if not many aftermarket coils for small engines are weaker than the originals. Newer style small engine coils that don't use points aren't what they should be and likely can't be tested with meters accurately.

I don't know what kind of spark plugs these people are testing but I will tell you I never seen a spark plug that has a gap that big. Can't adjust the gap, it is just way too freaking big.
