Unlike passive adapters, this DP to DVI converter offers an active conversion for use with any DisplayPort output - ideal for graphics cards that are not capable of outputting multi-mode DP++ signals (e.g. ATI Eyefinity). Supporting resolutions up to 1920x1200, this compact device provides a simple solution for converting DisplayPort output for compatibility with existing DVI monitors, televisions or projectors.

This is very easy to use and works very well. Needed to transfer an image from an echo machine in the OR to a monitor in the room. Worked flawlessly.

It looked solidly made and I spoke with Startech tech support first to confirm this part number for my use: computer output of DisplayPort and single monitor input of DVI-D. Requires active and device marked active. It worked just fine for almost 60 days. It even has a good DisplayPort positive lock.It is active but probably not meant for heavy use. This was used on one compact industrial computer running Windows 10 IOT and connected to one specialized 19" monitor. It was mounted, protected, zip-tied, environmentally stable (60 degrees to 80 degrees), indoors. It was simply a failure of a product.I would typically make an allowance for an isolated failure. Stuff happens. However, we've had enough problems with Startech products in the past. This one was a costly failure. So, we will eliminate Startech as a go-to manufacturer for anything critical.

This adapter works, no finagling, no janky stuff. Just plug it into my DP port on my video card and it converts it to DVI and handles 1080p or 1200p resolutions without any issue, no issues with scan size, screen, resolution, etc, brightness, nothing. Can't tell its adapted at all. No extra power cable, no USB, nothing needed. Simple and works. Lets you span out those monitors from a multi-output video card easily, if you have older monitors that are not HDMI/DP/etc, like older DVI/VGA setups. Remember this will not work for 4k resolution or higher. Get a new monitor for that. This is to simple convert DP at 1080p/1200p resolution to DVI for use on older monitors. Saved me buying a new monitor and/or older video cards (video cards rarely have DVI now for multi-output, its all DP these days).

I initially bought the Accell DisplayPort to DVI-D, and it would not work. My setup is:- Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 3GB- 3x Asus 25.5" 1200p 60hz monitorsMy intention was to use it to run games such as Tera Online, Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen, etc. After having struggled with the Accell, I was hesitant to see if the StarTech adapter would work, but it did! Almost immediately after plugging it into my computer, all three monitors popped to life. Using Catalyst to enable Eyefinity, then arranging the desktop playout properly, and I haven't had any significant issues since. I can play all the games at respectable FPS (The 7950 is old, but still a lively beast) on medium/high quality, though I tend to stick to medium in order to ensure good FPS still. One of the issues I'm having (not too huge an issue but hurts gaming immersion) is that on areas with perfect black (lots of those space sims have that often, if you can imagine!) my left monitor (the one with the displayport) and sometimes my right.. or all of them actually (but mainly the left), will have green lines flickering horizontally across the screen. This is for areas that are supposed to be perfectly black. If I switch out of the game or bring up something that has color (planet, menu, etc) the flickering stops, but will continue afterwards. I'm not sure why. But for now, the displayport is holding up marvelously. And at such a low cost! Also, for those of you with my same setup (or approximately), I use Catalyst to boost my card. +20% power, 1200mhz OC, 1350 memory OC, 50% manual fan speed. Works like a charm, and significantly improves my FPS across all my games with minimal increase to heat.

I had a StarTech passive adapter and it worked fine in a triple monitor setup as long as my main (center) monitor was hooked up to the adapter. When it wasn't, my extended monitors would disconnect when they went to sleep. The problem is that the DisplayPort is not the primary port on a EVGA GTX660. So, in order to use my main monitor on the primary port, I had to purchase an active adapter. I originally tried the Cable Matters active adapter and it worked fine but the monitor attached to it was slow to wake from sleep (about 5-10 seconds). Same problem with the replacement. Finally, tried this one from StarTech and it works perfectly. I've only had it for a couple weeks but so far it works like an active adapter should.

I've used this with two graphics cards now and it works perfectly with both. There are some things worth worrying about with a computer, overclocking, optimising, actually using it and that sort of stuff for example. But worrying about a simple monitor connection isn't one of them. This little gem just solves the problem, makes my third monitor work and I can go back to gaming/working without giving it another thought.I've used it with three different monitors and they all work perfectly, both when using EyeFinity and when using the standard 3 screen desktop arrangement. There just doesn't seem to be anything you need to worry about with this adapter, it's great. It helps that it's on the list of supported hardware and all that, but honestly, it just works so get it and forget it.

First for those who purchased this and it did not work, shame on you. This is an Active Display Port Adapter. If your PC does not have display port then this will not work for you. As well if you are trying to run this on mini display port, again shame on you.Now onto the good stuff. My PC at work has 2 DVI and 1 Display ports, my home PC has 1 DVI, 1 HDMI and 4 display ports. These work in both and all ports. I used the DVI as there are many monitors that support it. My work PC has all slots full. On windows 7 all I did was shut off the PC, plug this into the DISPLAY PORT, and turn it on. Instantly had 3 monitors. Within the windows desktop control setup I was able to arrange the new monitor to its physical location. Easy as it gets.My home PC has 6 monitors on it. This adapter was recommended by my video cards manufacture. They are Radeon 7770 series. Again plugged all these adapters in, powered up the PC and all of them came to life. I again had to arrange the monitors in the screen resolution tool. All you do is click on the monitor and drag it to where you want it, its really that easy. On top of that I have it setup part time in Eyefinity. This makes all 6 screens into 1 large screen. Again smooth as glass. To anyone with a display port on the pc this is the right adapter. For those who it did not work with, shame on you for not reading what this does.

I will say that this is the second I have purchased when I purchased the first I did not believe everyone saying that it would last about a year and stop working for triple monitor setup. Mine lasted probably a year and a half and then would only support the third monitor on lower resolutions and then eventually stopped working a couple months later. So I figured maybe the world wasn't crazy and I purchased another and to my surprise everything is running smoothly again.I will put this advice out to anyone who believes that they can fix the issue once it dies, don't bother. I tried basically everything to fix it and yes there was situations where I could get it to work again but never at my desired setup, i.e. triple monitors at max resolution.
